Hows the OLP Wolfgang knockoff "MM-1F?"

Re: Hows the OLP Wolfgang knockoff "MM-1F?"

I like it cause Im looking for a wolfgang *cough* axis *Cough* style guitar.

Just wanting it for its looks really, its a really cool guitar.
I figure a CC in the bridge and a stag-mag in the neck with a coil tap on the stagmag, should do the trick.

And i just got a descent amount of money :).

I'd rather have this than a $369 fender strat or tele. Unless the tele is suprizing quality, which i doubt for under $400.

Re: Hows the OLP Wolfgang knockoff "MM-1F?"

Yeah that axe its pretty cool... the features are quite impressive, just add a OFR and some duncans and you have a great axe for shredding all day and many gigs...
i´ll pick one up as soonest i pay all my credit cards...jejeje some GAS experience...

dude on music123.com or musciansfriend.com, they have a floyd rose version with transparent gold or natural and its 279

Re: Hows the OLP Wolfgang knockoff "MM-1F?"

I really wana hear a sound clip between an OFR and a licensed, usualy I cant tell the difference.

My Platium pro has sustain for hours, and even great tone and reasonace unpluged. And its got a licensed.

Really, whats the difference? I believe im just paying for a name.

Then odds are you're never going to be satisfied until you actually get a Wolfgang or an Axis guitar.

You can buy the guitar once and watch your investment acrue as you hang onto it over the years or you can buy the OLP, pour money into it changing components trying to make it sound and play like a Wolfgang or Axis and then one day sell it all for an incredible loss and hopefully you'll have enough for the real deal.

I wouldn't recommend an OLP for anyone but a parent who is looking for a first guitar for their kid and wants to hedge their bet woth their investment because they believe their child won't stick to it.

It's the difference between a toy and a tool, an investment and throwing your money away, short-term gratification versus a long-term goal which you're likely to hang onto for the rest of your life.

Im a very poor person, I've not payed over $200 for a guitar yet, this OLP will be the MOST i've ever payed for a guitar, Or amp.

I dont have a job or nothing, I just rescently got a few old computers im hoping I can sell, to raise a little money.

If I was as rich as you think I am, I'd just make this
superstratss0fk.jpg

And never go after another guitar again. And who would pay $300 for a guitar if they arent even sure if their kid will play it. Im sure most people cant just blow that kind of money.

And I'll never be satasifyed with any guitar anyway. Thats why Im wanting this one, My platium pro is fine. But that doesnt mean Im not going to go get something else to experment with. As much as my taste's change, even if i had $1000 to spend on a real wolfgang, next week i'd be after something else anyway. So its a waste for me to put much money into a guitar.

And really, name something better under $300 that I can buy new. I dont trust buying used guitars.

Re: Hows the OLP Wolfgang knockoff "MM-1F?"

I have an OLP bass and for what I use it for, it's great. But you should really consider saving up for a used Wolfgang or Axis. Some of the Wolfgangs go for pretty cheap on ebay.

If pretty cheap is $300 or less, then I'd **** myself.
Most the time a see used wolfgangs they are Atleast $1100
(I just checked, cheapest was $400 to go with 2 days left)

And Its not so much that im going for a clone of everything wolfgang, im just wanting the body style, something different from my *cough* overly extreme *cough* B.C. rich.

And just out of curosity, what country are the $369 (fender) strats and tele's from that musciansfriend.com sells? The tele looks stupid with a strat style bridge saddles.

And Im not being mean to you people, just some of you have 15 les pauls, and are always talking about comming back from GC with some $4,000 guitar. And you think most other people have that kind of budget. Or you think they can just "save up" and get it. This is a rare occasion when I actually have enough money to buy something. If I sit around, the money will nitpick away until I have nothing.

I Figure, I can buy that OLP and *hoping this computer sells* get some fretwork done and change the pickups. I dont give a damn about re-sale value, only thing I even think about that with is amps. If I was in a band with monster amps, miking and all, making money off gigging, I'd buy a wolfgang or axis. But just playing in a cardboard box sized room and for self enjoyment, I dont see that kind of money for anything.

There was a model that I believe went for around $600 new. You can find one on ebay for less than $400.

Well, I think your answer is right there.

As was told to the Big Lebowski......get a job.

Well, then I think the problem isn't money as much as it is having some self-control and figuring out how to control your impulsiveness.

I'm all for playing and owning alot of guitars. Over the years I've bought and sold a ton of axes. But for the most part the process netted me profit pretty regularly. I got the chance to play alot of guitars I lusted after and then when i realized they weren't for me I could sell them off and funnel the money into something else.

You appear to be bent on just throwing what little money you have away.

Why not hold onto that money, get a job and add to it and then get something that you can play and enjoy and then if you find out that it's just not for you, make your money back...or even make a profit!

And really, name something better under $300 that I can buy new. I dont trust buying used guitars.

You don't trust buying used guitars?

That's probably one of the funniest things I've heard.

The entire Vintage market qualifies as "used."

I see alot of what I was as a kid in your posts. I pissed away a ton of money on cheap guitars that I never got any decent financial return on. When I was young I wanted a ton of different axes. Once I learned about investing the money I had into something that I could turn around and make profit from and get to play in the mean time I discovered that alot of the guitars I wanted weren't really right for me. But I also discovered that with smart decisions alot of guitars I never thought I could afford were well within my reach.

Re: Hows the OLP Wolfgang knockoff "MM-1F?"

Guys, give the guy a break. He's going thru what most of us have been thru. Hell, I'm still going thru mine! In a perfect world, everyone would save up and buy that used US $600+ guitar and be happy, but we all started somewhere. I remember gassing for a Washburn P2 (Korean) when I first got into guitars.

It was cheap, so I replaced the pickups. Then the nut. Then put a Tonepros on it. Then replaced the electronics. Then set it up. Now that axe is worth less than I paid for it stock. Do I regret it? Nope, cause I learnt a heap about guitars and tone. I'm in the camp of "Save up more and buy a decent axe" but that's something you learn, and without learning that I wouldn't know jack about what makes an axe good or bad.

There's a lot of cheap axes out there, but make sure if you do buy one that you inspect it carefully with someone who is knowledgeable and can spot a good guitar for the money. Bottom line, if you get a good, cheap axe you extend your enjoyment of playing and you figure out what you like and dislike. We've all gone thru it.

Hindsights 20/20, but ya gotta walk before you can run.

Re: Hows the OLP Wolfgang knockoff "MM-1F?"

My best guitar yet has been my $100 Bronze BC rich, it doesn't have many options, but its the best playing guitar i've ever played. (My guitar teacher liked how it played more than his tele. Back when I was taking guitar lessons. It even played better to me than alot of the fenders that had in stock.)

So I dont underestamate cheap guitars. Hell, it even has an extremely good neck and a very tight neck pocket.

I just dont see paying a ton of money for a guitar when It's not going to be making me money, and most the time it'll either be in my lap or on a stand, not getting beat around and tore to pices. (The exact reason I got over my obsession to buy a stack.)

Les pauls for example, cost alot because they are built to handel abuse, and last for ever. I dont need something like that. And Im sorry, vintage is cool and all, but meh. I dont see $20,000 for a strat that doesnt play as good as one you could buy for $600 and have setup for $200.

And right now isn't a good time to be trying to get a job, im in the "try to find out what to do with my life" stage, on top of school and many other things.

Re: Hows the OLP Wolfgang knockoff "MM-1F?"

hey skarekrough, back off! good god! he just doesnt wanna pay a whole lot for a guitar, nothing wrong with that, specially since the thing plays really well... and the get a job comment, come on mr fuddy duddy, u got a job, u got money, who cares? this guy doesnt, u shouldnt be tellin him what to do.. so lay off, this is the second time ive had to stick up for someone for comments comin from ur sry @$$, back off

Right on, bro. I agree with everything you've said so far, except the not trusting used guitars thing. Sure, some of them are crap, but if you look hard and be patient you might find exactly what you're looking for. I just bought my new Strat (see sig) used at an amazing bargain, and man, what a killer axe that is!

And I totally hear what you're saying about people who seem to have unlimited cash to spend on gear. Good for them, I say, but not all of us are in that position. I'm certainly not.

Anyway, you seem to know what you want, so go with your gut and hope everything works out.

Best of luck!

Re: Hows the OLP Wolfgang knockoff "MM-1F?"

I had one for a while - got a really good deal at Musician's Friend for an OLP MM-1 (standard bridge) that was mint green - I liked the color but I guess they had trouble selling it.

It played well and had a good feel. It had a slight buzz on the low E string. I thought the trouble might be the cheap strings so I tried to change it to some D'Addarios I had. I ended up breaking the nut - so I returned it.

I kind of regret that because it was a nice little guitar. But I would have had to do a lot of mod-ing before I would be completely satisfied.

I'd say - if you see a good deal on one - and it plays well - grab it

Well, we wont be having nut busting issues with a floyd. *Cough* Ahahahaah *Cough.*

And So far, every guitar i've played that wasnt setup had buzz on the lower strings, thats pretty normal, for a "out of the box" guitar.

Im hoping out in flordia they will have a few shops so I can try some of em out. Im going to be in st. augustine florida, so If ya know any good shops around there, tell me!

Something interesting i found on google.
"Two major differences between the OLP MM1 and OLP MM1F: 1)the OLP MM1F comes standard with a Floyd Rose locking trem and 2) the OLP MM1 has a photo flame top while the MM1F has a real flame top veneer. "

If this is the case... then personally, I think this is a good deal, and based on my limited experience with the MM1, I would definitely be interested in the MM1F

Re: Hows the OLP Wolfgang knockoff "MM-1F?"

Cheap guitars can be great (by cheap I mean low price tag). Every guitar I've ever played out of the box needed a setup. Cheaper guitars usally need it more desperately than more expensive guitars. There definatly great for experimenting with modifacations and with a few good mods they can sound and play great.
