HSH advice

Hey guys,

I have a HSH strat with a JB in bridge, Texas special in middle and a 59 in the neck.

I love the neck and bridge, and the Texas special is ok on its own, but in positions 2 and 4 it really sounds terrible; really thinny and unusable.

I really only used the Texas special because I had it laying around.

Could anyone recommend a good middle pickup to compliment the two humbuckers?

I know I'm never going to get that strat "quack" with this setup, and I'm not really looking for that (I have a SSS strat for that!)

Any advice would be much appreciated 😀

Re: HSH advice

I would suggest a Classic Stack Plus (STK-S4). They are the noiseless variety of the tried and true SSL-1. if you need it a little hotter get the Vintage Hot Stack Plus (STK-S7).

Re: HSH advice

Are you splitting the JB to the slug coil when combining it with the Texas Special? For a humbucker, I find it can do remarkably well for that role.

Maybe a little '59 bridge in the middle? At least as one option to discuss. There are a lot of options. I could just as easily suggested a DiMarzio Virtual Solo.

Now that I think about it, aren't Fender singles out of phase with SD's?

Re: HSH advice

Yeah, this is a phase thing. The only pickups that are in phase with Fenders are the Antiquity Texas Hots.
