HSH or HH options

Mr 9finger

Digitally Challenged
It's tax time already and I'll be looking at a new project guitar with my tax money! I'm wanting to do something really versatile with this one.

The body will be a bolt on. Thicker than normal Mahogany ( I like heavy ass guitars :) ) W/ a nice maple top! I mostly use my modded Blue Voodoo ( high gain)

I can't decide wether I want an HH layout with a super switch or an HSH with coil taps etc....

I love the JB/59 combo but I'm wanting to shy away from that setup. I want something that will accent my amp If I go the HH route.

I'd like some suggestions on HSH set up for pickups. I've haven't had one for a long time. What pickups work well with each other in this setup?

What are some of the advantages that these 2 setups have over each other?

Sorry for the long post...

Re: HSH or HH options

The HSH can have the position "2" and "4" Quack tones found in Strats. You can also use the middle pickup on it's own. I can't think of any other major differences.

Re: HSH or HH options

i cant comment about using it with that amp, but i can say that i like my H-S-H 540s (see pic in avatar and profile) especially for versatility ... i used a 59(n) and a C5(b) and a duck middle (but would recommend a VR middle instead) ... if you dont want the 59, i bet a PGn or AIIPn would smoke too ... i used a push/pull pot to control the position 3 functionality (push is the duck, alone, pull gives me n+b combos) ... i used a 3 way mini toggle to select which coil of the N or B is selected (up for 'outer' coil, middle for both coils, down for 'inner' coil) ... i get 16 different combinations with that guitar

good luck
