HSH pots and caps . . .

Hi,
I have a HSH that I am working on and wondered what most folks use for the tone/volume pots? 500K? For the cap, is .022 the standard? Thank you very much!

Re: HSH pots and caps . . .

yep
there is some debate over caps
ceramic, Paper in Oil, etc some say PIO are better
some say there is no difference

as far as pots
I like the 500k on all mine
but some swear by the 250k
if you are a stickler
get a concentric pot with a pair of 500k stacked pot
and put a 250k resistor on one and sent it to just the single

ok and then there is the linear / audio taper thing
some like all linear taper pots
some like all audio taper
some like one on the tone and the other on the volume

there are several thread on these topics and opinions to match

I prefer linear volumes and audio tone

you can buy all linear and make them audio with a resistor at 20% the value of the pot
example 500k pot + 100k resistor wiper to leg

or go with something new and change the rules
either or its what you like

Re: HSH pots and caps . . .

Thanks for the feedback!

I use 250K on my single coils with a .047 cap and am very happy with the sound; for the HSH, I was hoping to use a push pull to have one setting give me both humbuckers, and the other to split the humbuckers and effectively have a SSS setup. I guess I want the best of both worlds and am not sure that there is an obvious solution . . . thank you!

Re: HSH pots and caps . . .

on my HSH strat
in the signature line

its set up for
standard strat switching
with a push/push from Mojo ( careful with them boogers, broke one pulling on it )
to do the coil splitting

if i could put another PP on it
it would be a "neck or bridge always on" as I did for my buddies strat
where you get
standard switching with say the bridge on when in neck or neck mid position

so one could get the "all pickups on" and the "neck/bridge" combos

you have two tones right?

mine only has one tone and one volume
and the volume is too close to the whammy
the PP would get broken

Re: HSH pots and caps . . .

you could try a master tone with a rotary switch
but I have never set one of those up

just thinkin out loud
