HSS + Super 5 way switch

I've just installed a Pearly Gates into the bridge position of my Strat with a super 5 way switch. I have APS1's in the middle & neck.

After checking all the wiring diagrams I can't find one which covers the set up I'm trying to get.

Any one know how to get the following set up.

1. Bridge full HB
2. Bridge & middle (split HB)
3. Bridge full HB, middle & neck
4. Middle & neck
5. Neck

Re: HSS + Super 5 way switch

Thanks ehdwuld, that looks perfect, I'll let you know how I get on.

Re: HSS + Super 5 way switch

we are looking at it from the perspective of there are no volume pots in the diagram

the volume pots should wire up like any other diagram

do you have a question on the pots?

what have you got, 1 volume and 2 tones?

I have Seymour Duncan pickups as follows:

Neck - APS1 single coil 2 wire
Middle - APS1 single coil 2 wire
Bridge - Pearly Gates Humbucker 4 wire pluss earth

I have a 500k volume pot and two 250k tone pots. Tone pot 2 has a .022cap and tone pot 1 has a .047 cap.

I'm using a 5 way Super switch.

I'm trying to get the following configuration:

Switch Position's

1 - Bridge Humbucker with tone pot 2
2 - Bridge Humbucker + Middle single coil with tone pot 2
3 - Bridge Humbucker + Middle + Neck single coils with tone pot 2
4 - Middle + Neck single coils with tone pot 1
5 - Neck single coil with tone pot 1

Re: HSS + Super 5 way switch

got that
so what is your question about the tone and volume?

Volume pot

connect one outside leg of the volume to the jack hot
connect the other outside leg to ground back of pot
connect the center leg to the switch where the red arrow points

tone control

leave one outside leg with nothing attached
connect your capacitor of choice to the center leg
the other side of the cap to the back of pot
the last outside leg goes to the common terminal of the switch
of whichever pickup you would like it to control

between the backs of each pot and the other side of the jack
connect a ground

I dont inherently know what you intend the tones to do
or what you would like them to do

do you want one for the bridge
and one for the other singles?

do you want a master tone?

do you want one for the neck
and one for the middle

be specific

Thanks, thats been very helpful. I'd like to have the Tone 2 in position 1,2 and 3 and Tone 1 in position 4 and 5 as shown in the picture below.

My idea was to have the tone pot with the .022uF cap on the HB selection and have the tone pot with the .047uF cap for the single coils. That way by using a 500k volume I will get the best from the HSS configuration.

great
that other post with the image was just un-doable

bring two wires up from the volume

separate the bridge from the singles

connect tones as shown
the tone 47 may affect the sound all the time
I'm not sure

jump the commo

Thanks, I'll let you know how things turn out. What did you mean by jump the common?

Re: HSS + Super 5 way switch

ignore that

I drew that a couple of times and kept finding errors in it

I tried it last night and it's a no go.

If it makes things more straight forward lets ditch the position 3 trying to get all going at once, lets just go for the position 3 for the middle pickup only using the .047uF cap.

1 - Bridge Humbucker with tone pot 2
2 - Bridge Humbucker + Middle single coil with tone pot 2
3 - Middle single coil with tone pot 1
4 - Middle + Neck single coils with tone pot 1
5 - Neck single coil with tone pot 1

Re: HSS + Super 5 way switch

whats no go
the tone control ?

the pickup switching?

so if its easier for you
lets not rewire the whole thing

try this

create a single master tone with a .022 cap

remove the second tone pot

put in a two position switch in place of the tone pot

with a wire up from the ground on one side
and a second .022 cap from the same terminal as the cap on the master tone

caps act differently from resistors

if you parallel caps its like adding their values together
unlike resistors where series adds them

you can choose to have either .022 tone or .044 tone with the flip of a switch
