Hug your ESP Standard tight tonight...

... cos tomorrow, they might all be gone. If you had an ESP Std you had your eye on, it might be the right time to bite the bullet and buy it!

Word on the street is, ESP is gearing up to stop production of ALL the Export series (aka Standard Series), leaving only the Original Series and Custom Shop models. Read more here: http://sixstringsamurai.co.nz/2013/01/04/esp-guitars-to-axe-the-whole-of-the-standard-series/

Re: Hug your ESP Standard tight tonight...

Didn't the French dealer say they were keeping 16 color-models? Still, it sounds like an artificial midrange suckout, to try and funnel most people who can't spring for a Custom Shop into the LTD line. (I kinda hate it when that happens; for me that would be like Jackson scooping out the USA Select series.)

They should do away with the LTD line instead.

Yup, exactly like if Jackson killed the USA Select series.

I'm not sure what exactly they're keeping - but the story I've heard from my local dealer is that the Standard Series is going altogether once they fulfill all current orders. I think the "keeping 16 models" thing basically just reinforces that they will not be doing small batch runs with modified specs from this point onwards.

Well, it looks like the new LTD Elite line will be poised to fill the vacuum. It'll be interesting to see how this works out for ESP in the long run. It seems like maybe the Japanese domestic market is big enough that they simply aren't too worried about cutting out the rest of the world...

I'm just glad that I picked up an Original Series MII DX for cheap just the other day!!

Re: Hug your ESP Standard tight tonight...

I like my Ltd, I was hoping for an eclipse at some point in my future. guess it will be a used one.

Re: Hug your ESP Standard tight tonight...

i get along well with a good portion of 400 and up series of LTD. not too shabby. ESP's however is another story.

Re: Hug your ESP Standard tight tonight...

Whoa, this sucks... I was saving spare change to get an SV-II eventually but I guess I won't be getting it after all. An ESP Custom Shop model would be nice but their price quotes are crazy high. I'd rather go with a CS Jackson for that money.

If the Export line is gone I'm putting my money on an original series Horizon. I never liked the Horizon-II anyway.

Nah, I'd imagine those bring in some bucks... the $500 and up crowd of those is actually pretty good. I've had an EC1000VB for about 2 yrs now and it's been a great solid axe.

Re: Hug your ESP Standard tight tonight...

Couldn't you just get the schecter equivalent? I've done zero research and am totally ignorant, but they look like they came from the same factory. And for that matter, love my dean deceiver.

Re: Hug your ESP Standard tight tonight...

What Schecter equivalent? Granted, ESP and Schecter are owned by the same parent company, but...

Schecter Japan largely make superstrats, which show a lot of the Tom Anderson-style heritage from back when he worked for Schecter.

On the other hand, Schecter USA have the Korean etc. lines which really aren't worthy to be mentioned with ESP in the same sentence...

Re: Hug your ESP Standard tight tonight...

My old bass player has the 4 string version of that. The body was thicker than a Les Paul, and it was heavy as hell. Both weight, and sound-wise. Man that thing packed a punch.
