The 36 has three 12ax7s in the preamp section, the 18 has two.

My advice to anyone considering buying one of these amps would be to buy the head version. They're great amps, but the speakers in the combos are terrible.

Hmmmm. To be blunt... I returned the amp to the shop without having gotten any recorded tones that I truly loved.

It's definitely an uber versatile head, and a great concept, but for me, I was quite disappointed by the actual TONE in the end, especially considering all the hype.

For my money, the Mini Rectifier that I owned just surpasses the Tubemeister on every possible level, from a tonal standpoint.

I'll probably do a modified write-up featuring my thoughts on operation, layout etc, but I just didn't get anything worthwhile from the time I spent recording it, unfortunately.

Anybody knows if this things are using SS cliping?... I've seen some videos on Utuv and they seem way to gainy for just 1 preamp tube (the other 12AX7 should be the PI), kinda reminded me of the blackstar HTs

Ok, thanks for the update! Sorry it didnt work for ya... I dunno, the 18 I played sounded good. But so did the mini 51510 III. I played the little mesa and didnt come off overly impressed, BUT.. A) I know its prolly built better than the rest of them and B) I havent spent enough time tweaking one to get the sounds I desire from a mesa
