Hum/buzzing/feedback problems

hi, I put up this post to get some help, my epiphone gothic explorer with a bill lawrence l500xl and seymour duncan 59 is getting realy bad feed back problems and humming/buzzing, i am using a peavy vypyr 30 watt amp and i dont get the same issues on either of my other guitars, one of which has active dave mustaine live wires and the other default bc rich passive pickups. the bussing on the epi is realy bad, i lived with for ages and always though it was just because of a high output pickup combined with the possibility of a faulty volume knob that didnt go all the way to zero, i finally got around to fixing it by rigging up a kill switch between the hot wire of the pickup selector and the tone knob, the switch works fine but even with the guitar switched off with no output there is still a really loud buzz. it get exaggerated by facing it towards lights, speakers, computer etc (although this i suspect is normal) i cant seem to figger it out, i got out a multi meter and checked that every thing is grounded properly, but the problem still persists. i discovered that the guitar has volume knobs that are branded as tone knobs and a tone knob that is branded as a volume knob. could this be an issue? basically its just constantly buzzing, and if you touch the stop bar or output jack it reduces the noise but its still there, if i hold the guitar but dont touch any steal and my dad touches the stop bar etc it doesn't do any thing, same thing happens if he holds it and i touch it. i also checked the ouput jack and all connections are good, i am completely baffled, does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Hum/buzzing/feedback problems

sounds like the ground and hot have gotten reversed

the 60 cycle hum you hear is your shielding

with the guitar plugged into the amp

does touching any metal parts of the bridge or pickups increase the buzz?

if so check the wires up from the jack

Re: Hum/buzzing/feedback problems

touching the metal parts decreases the buzz, slightly, and what ground and hot wires do you think would be mixed up?

Re: Hum/buzzing/feedback problems

Sounds like a grounding issue, or a short (one of the hot wires grounded or touching a ground point).
