Hum in Custom Flat Strat SSL Single-Coil

Hello,

I bought a second hand Jackson Soloist Pro Series SL3Q. The guitar is like new, with just a couple cosmetic minor blemish. The guitar has HSS configuration and the specs said the single coil are reverse wound for hum cancelling. However, when I use the neck single coil in its full position, I still get hum. If I use neck/middle or middle/bridge, I get no hum.

Is this expected or I shouldn't be getting hum while using just the neck pickup (position 1)?

A single coil can’t defeat hum by itself. Reverse wound reverse polarity only works when two pickups are on at the same time.

Welcome to the forum!

The neck pickup is a single coil, so it will hum. If it is used in conjunction with the middle pickup, it should cancel that hum. The Custom Flat is a traditional single coil, so when used alone, it will hum.

If you wanted noiseless in all positions the STK-S6 is the Custom Stack Plus equivalent of the SSL-6 Custom Flat Pro Strat.
