Hum/Noise issues with Hot Rails

Just trying to reinforce my concerns:

Would a really loud hum from my pickups be caused by poor solders on the grounds? I've got my guitar wired with Hot Rails in the bridge, and using a crunchy distortion I get a very loud squeal that you'd normally get if you pointed your pickups towards a guitar cab's speakers, only i'm 15 feet away and point away. Also, there's a prominent hum when I use heavier, metal-esque tones.

Naturally, the issue can be resolved a bit when I turn my Noise Supressor's Threshold to MAX, but I would like to stay away from maxing it out since it has a habit of taking the natural noise out of a guitar.

Also, another guess to this would be that the Hot Rails are, well, Hot. Really Really Hot :smokin:

yes, i had the same problem at first (hot rails was the first pup i bought and installed) rewire it, should fix it... prolly a bad ground or the wires got mixed up somewhere.... have you checked the scematic? green and bare to ground. red and white together and sealed...:)

Re: Hum/Noise issues with Hot Rails

Even with humbuckers there will still be some residual hum; the minute difference in phase of the noise signal caused by the separation of the two coils means that even with the inversion of the waveform' noise component cancellation is imperfect.

This parameter changes with the aspect angle of the coils to the source of the hum. Try it; listen to how the noise changes as you move the guitar around relative to the different EM sources around you.

However you should also look to other sources of the problem. Many people mistakenly believe that fitting humbuckers will cure all noise but they won't cure inductive noise entering via unscreened wiring in the control cavities. Just listen to any modern Gibson Les Paul...
