hum when changing direction?

Ok this is a bit strange. I just replaced my pickups today (DiMarzio FRED in neck and SD FS in bridge) and both of my amps begin to hum if I am not in the right spot which seems to be 5 ft to the left at a 45 degree angle facing the amp. If I rotate my body left or right, move forward or backward, or move up and down, the amp hums. I'm absolutely positive I have it wired correctly, I took the standard wiring approach (black as hot, red and white together, green and bare to the ground). I went over it with a DMM and everything was connected correctly. Any ideas?

Re: hum when changing direction?

There's two things that are likely here. First of all, you list one wiring color combo, but a Fred and an SD are different. If you wired the Fred using Duncan colors, it will be wrong. The Fred should be: red for hot, black and white together, green for ground.

The other thing is, some amount of what you describe could be normal, even if everything is wired right. Especially if you're near a computer monitor.

But double-check that Fred wiring first.

Re: hum when changing direction?

Bah your right. Red is hot in DiMarzios :( I'll fix that and let you know what happends.
