Hum with my Fender Hot Rod.

I have a Fender Hot Rod. Its about 6 years old and lately I'm getting hum form it.

I moved and it didn't sound like this. I checked to see if the tubes are well set and they are. Also when I have the T.V. on and shut it off, the hum reduces some but not all. I'm guessing a grounding problem from the outlet or it coud be that I need to change the tubes.

Do any of you guys now about this.

Re: Hum with my Fender Hot Rod.

Check for anything around the amp that could be causing it. Try moving it into a different room without a TV or anything. Try moving it away from a power outlet.

Re: Hum with my Fender Hot Rod.

It could just be a cap going also. A bad cap will make an amp noisy. It could also be a tube going bad. If moving it around the house and away from any interference doesn't make a difference, I'd suggest a trip to the amp tech to figure it out.

Re: Hum with my Fender Hot Rod.

besides it being amp issues is everything else in the loop fine too?

in my room my TV, Clock Radio, computer modem, and some lighting fixtures all add noise to my guitar rigs.. This is normall... also the streets hydro wires are near by on the pole just 50 feet outside my rooms window so i figure they add noise too. maybe not but i figure they do....

I also returned a multiFX unit once because i thought it was too noisey... turns out a solid wire ground on my Dimarzio fred from the mid 90's was broken and it was hard to see...

and i also have 1 guitar cord that became noisey over night... it worked fine and then noise.... so i replaced the tips and it is still noisey... what happened i'm not sure..

You may need a trip to the amp tech but check everything out first

Re: Hum with my Fender Hot Rod.

Are you hearing a static like sound as well? If so? Theses are the tell tail sighs of the HRD problematic resistors. R78 & R79 are the 2 ceramic 5 watt 470 ohm resistors located on the bottom of the PCB just right of center. If you can see a burnt orange like hue on the trace pads of theses resistors?
It's time to get it to a Tech. You may wanna suggest to your tech to lower the value of the 470 ohm resistors to 330 ohms. The Phase Inverter plate load resistors R57 & R58 are also problematic and should be changed. Hope this helps.:)
