Humbucker for a Basswood Strat

I need some advice on what Duncan Pickup to put in the bridge of my Fender Heavy Metal Strat. It is light and made of Basswood if I am correct with Floyd Rose. I had a Dimarzio Tone Zone ( 8 bass, 8 mid, 4 treble) in it which sounded dull with no brightness. I am not a big fan of the JB or Screamin Demon which I have had in my other strat. I am sort of looking for that 80's metal sound but also want the versatility to do classic rock such as Zeppelin and Guns and Roses without sounding totally distorted and muddy. I am leaning towards either the TB-5 Custom or TB-14 Custom 5. Any suggestions? Thanks for your responses in advance.

Re: Humbucker for a Basswood Strat

I've got a Schecter V1-Plus which has a basswood body with a maple top and a Floyd. It's got a C5 in the bridge position. I've tried a few other pu's in there but the C5 was the one that really worked. The extra bottom end evens out the low end that is lost due to the Floyd and light body and it'll do all the styles that you mentioned with ease!! :headbang:

I have a Custom in one of my RG's, its very versitale. Anything from Zep to Metallica !

You guys aren't making this any easier....I am anxious to put some greenbacks in Seymour's and Black Rose Custom's pocket. I know they are both great pickups and have read great reviews on both here. It seems that both pickups have loyal groups of advocates. But....which one?

The TB-5 Custom
or
The TB-14 Custom 5

This could come down to majority rules.....I am was sort of leaning towards the TB-5 Custom because these guitars at one time came stock with a Dimarzio Super Distortion which is a ceramic magnet also

But I did like the advice that Rocker35 gave and the fact that he has a guitar which is also made of basswood in which he has tried other pickups and is using a TB-14.....Still undecided

Re: Humbucker for a Basswood Strat

Is basswood and Custom a good combo? A friend borrowed me his SH-5. I'll check it out in my RG this week, maybe i gonna like it more than the JB. ;)

Re: Humbucker for a Basswood Strat

I ended going with the TB-5 Custom...The last pickup I tried in it was a Dimarzio Air Zone which I think was Alnico 5 so I am going to give the Ceramic Custom a try in the Basswood and see what happens. Thanks for all the advice and opinions again. I will know in about a week if I made the right choice.

You could always get an A5 magnet and if the Custom isn't to your liking, convert it to a C5.
