Humbucker Problem

I have a Seymour Duncan made humbucker (EVH Frankenstein) that mysteriously started to gradually lose it's treble frequencies and ouput about two weeks ago. Right now, when fully turned up to 10, it sounds like it's only on 5 or 6 and it actually sounds like I've engaged a "fat switch" In other words, it's only "muffled" bass frequencies that are coming through!
I checked and re-checked all the wires, resoldered them, changed the pot, the jack, checked the cable and the amp by plugging in my other guitars and everything is good.
The only thing I have yet to do is throw in another pickup and/or put the malfunctioning pick up into another guitar to see if I get the same result.
Any thoughts or suggestions?! I'm out of ideas...

Re: Humbucker Problem

if you have a multimeter see what the pup reads for dc resistance. if that reads ok then it could be the magnet lost its charge.

Re: Humbucker Problem

Well, I measured the Dc resistance and it turns out it actually dropped from the original 14k to 10k!

To check it finally desolder it and measure it again. If it reamains 10k, its probably a partial short.
Send it to Duncan and have it rewound. Should be covered by warranty if they dont see an outer damage.

Did exactly that and the measurement remained around 10K after I took it out.

I spoke to MJ at the Custom Shop, she told me to send it in and she'll take a look at it...
