I'm talking about the little "window" hole on the left side of most Duncan pickups. First off, what is the purpose? Just to have the windings visible vs. an empty bobbin?
Second, what sort of bugs me; on a real Duncan, the hole is always to the left of the pickup if the screw coil is on the bottom. On a Duncan Designed set, they seem to be on the bass side of the pickups, however it's intended to be oriented (so the hole would be on the right side of a neck pickup if you flipped it to have the screw coil underneath the slug.) I sort of prefer that as futile as it is. Any background?
