Humbucker (w) Split Coil => Wiring to run 2 x Caps and 2 x Resistors .... HELP !!!

Hi Wiring Guru's !

I have what I think is a complicate question for a simple set up ... but for the life of me, I cant seem to find out how to wire this up.

What I have

- " Parts " Strat with a SCoil in Neck and HB in Bridge
- 1 x Volume
- 1 x 3 Way On/On/On Pickup Selector
- No Tone Pot *but* a 510K Resistor and a .22 Orange Drop Cap
- HB is Split via a 2 x Way Toggle On / On

This all works and sounds great ... except for one thing ....

The Problem

When I switch to the Bridge HB and select the Coil Split - its sounds a bit too bright / a bit too-toppy / a bit too sharp

What I want to fix / re-wire

I'd like to be able to wire it up so that when I am in Full Bridge HB mode what I now have [as specified above] remains .... BUT..... then when I switch to Bridge S/Coil mode it switchs to a 270k Resistor with a .47 Orange Drop Cap

The Help I Need

a) is it possible to modify my current setup as noted above and still keep using the just the existing On/On Toggle ?

if not

b) I presume (?) I need to replace the On / On Toggle with a DPDT Push Pull [or ideally a DPDT Push / Push if such a thing exists] ?

Either way ... its confusing me big-time :(

***** So ..... can someone please advise / post what needs to be wired to what to do this mod ?

If there is a drawing / wiring diagram somewhere, that would be awesome *****

Lastly, I dont care about the tonal impacts on the existing Neck S/Coil P/U as it is used so infrequently and so little, it not an issue regardless

Many thanks in advance,
Ben

The only thing I can think of is to do a partial split by running a resistor and/or cap to ground on your on/on switch. This leaves part of one coil active so you'll get a fuller sound. If you use a resistor such as a 4k7 you'll get a fuller but balanced sound. If you use a cap, it will block lows from getting grounded and add bass to your split sound. You can also combine the 2.

IF i've understood your request, you need a 6 poles / 2 positions switch wired like that:

SplitCoilVariableResCap.jpg

The red wire in my pic must be connected to hot.

The blue wire is to connect to hot (you haven't to use two wires: just put an horizontal jumper between the two center poles).

Your 470k resistor and 22n cap emulating a fixed tone network for HB are respectively the green line and orange circle in the upper part of the pic. Those in the lower part of the pic are your resistor and cap emulating a tone pot for SC (270k or 220k and 47n).

FWIW, the caps are not absolutely required: the most important parts are the resistors.

NOTE: sorry to have edited this answer several times. I must be tired because I've done multiple stupid mistakes... :-/

IF i've understood your request, you need a 6 poles DPDT on off wired like that:

Looking this diagram, if I use an ON / OFF / ON 6 post DPDT Switchs as per your diagram [which I do have some of] .... what signal / output if any do I get in the middle " OFF " position ?

I also do have some ON / ON / ON Switchs too ...... could they also be used (?) and if so, would that open up an extra switching options / combinations (?)

Sincere thanks again,
Ben

Awe, I'm sorry, I've left ANOTHER mistake in the mix despite of my multiple re-reading... :-/

The schematic should involve a 6 poles ON / ON switch... I've just edited my previous answer accordingly.

More later if time permits. right now, I'm busy. Thx for your understanding...

Below is a way to use an ON/OFF/ON switch in order to have the HB enabled without tone cap in center position.

There's other possible wirings but my free time is still limited... :-)
