Humbuckers for a Strat build- RTM and...?

I recently found an alder '89 Strat Plus body in great shape, and am mulling over what pickups to throw in. I'm bolting on a 2-piece all maple neck (USACG), and found a nice, second-hand Mannmade 2020 trem for it. I'm wanting a 2HB configuration, and some heat from the pickups. I've been playing JB's for a long time now, and had considered putting one in this guitar because I love those. However, after doing some research, the RTM seems like a killer option- especially with its' A2 magnet. It seems that with the alder/maple combo, an A2 magnet would round out the tone nicely, and be less harsh than the JB's A5. Anyone out there have this pickup in their Strat?

As for the neck, I'm looking for something that is not dull or overly woody; something with some bite. I'm seriously considering a Screamin' Demon- it looks like people have gotten good results with those in the neck. Also considered an SH-6n, but I'm not sure how the ceramic magnet would act with the A2. Full Shred neck was another consideration, but am thinking it may bring too much bite.

Been using RTMs for several years. I find it to be like the 78 Model, where as it likes certain woods more/less. For me, it seems to work better in the brighter woods like maple and even poplar. Some of MJ's other custom shop A2-based pickups can be a little more forgiving, in my opinion... like the Angus Young and the S-Deco, both of which I've tried in guitars like what you're describing.

If it's the DeMartini RATT thing you're going for, consider an old JBJ or perhaps a roughcast A5 in a current production model JB.

For the neck, since you've already brought up custom shop, I'd start with an S-Deco neck. you can choose whatever magnet you want. mine has an A4 and goes very well with an A2 S-Deco bridge. if you want to stick with production models, go with whatever you'd match up with a JB.

Great advice, thank you.

I have been on the hunt for an old JBJ, wondering if they were also made with trem spacing? I only ever see regular spaced.

Not much out there about the S-Deco, I'm certainly curious about this now.
