Humbuckers for Basswood

I have a guitar made out of basswood. It has a 24" rosewood/maple neck and a vintage tremelo. I'm looking to get new pickups for it, but am unsure as to what I should get. For the bridge, I want something that can do distortion pretty well, but also do nice cleans. For the neck, I'm looking for something with rockin' distortion. If it has a nice clean, that's great, but if not, no big deal. I know basswood is supposed to be a bit bassier in sound compared to alder, so I dont' know if that means I should look into pickups that concentrate on the mid and high frequencies. Any words of advice form you guys would be greatly appretiated.

Re: Humbuckers for Basswood

You're right about it being slightly bassy sounding wood. I have a basswood (tilia) G&L Legacy Deluxe with a maple veneer, and it does require a slightly bright pickup that's real tight sounding. I have a C-5 in there, which is clear and punchy, but I'm not sure I've nailed the tone with it yet. I'm thinking that a 59, Custom or Screamin Demon might be a good choice. The C-5 sounds pretty nice in it, but the C-5 has a lot of bass, so I'm thinking of going one step brighter.

'59s compliment basswood well

it's not well known for havin good high end, but 59's are, but still have a fat bottom

I'd go for a dual '59 set actually

A JB might work well in the bridge of that guitar... or a set of PGs? What kind of distorted tones are you looking for exactly?
