Re: Hy-Bro 2015 p'up: "Let's get it over with" vote

Personally, I don't care if the Hy-Bro bridge ends up being a PG/JB hybrid, a 78/Alt8 hybrid, a "Burning Gates" or what have you...as long as it sounds killer.

And that's what the Custom Shop is good at...making killer sounding pickups! :headbang:

So, I say we keep it simple, stick firmly to the "Hy-Bro = Hy-Brid" plan and refer back to my post #67 where I suggest we let the Custom Shop choose the details...

Tell the Custom Shop:

"For this year's forum pickup design, we have officially decided on the 2015 'Hy-Bro' Set! The Hy-Bro 'Neck' pickup is requested to be a hybrid model designed as the ideal neck-position companion to the existing '59/Custom' bridge model. The Hy-Bro 'Bridge' is requested to also be of a hybrid design, but with a focus on delivering increased output and a slightly 'hotter' response than the existing 59/Custom bridge model. We leave the specifics of the new 'Hy-Bro' designs up to you and look forward to what you create!"

This gives them the freedom to use existing coils or create entirely new ones. Maybe the "Burning Gates" is better in name than in tone! Who knows!?

What we do know is, whatever MJ, Derek and team come up with, they will sound GREAT!

Besides, letting the Custom Shop be the guinea pigs on this set is way easier on our pocketbooks than over-specifying the details here and possibly shelling out money on something that doesn't necessarily meet our expectations in the real world.

Let the geniuses at the Custom Shop do what they do best :)

Re: Hy-Bro 2015 p'up: "Let's get it over with" vote

Nono. Next year. Or Custom Shop. Let's keep this one on track.

Re: Hy-Bro 2015 p'up: "Let's get it over with" vote

Pretty sure we're still on track. It's already a "go" for the C/59 Neck pickup and it looks like the poll votes are leaning strongly toward letting the Custom Shop handle the details of that one.

However, some felt left out (again) and it was requested to "add in" an alternative hybrid bridge pickup. This would effectively create the "Hy-Bro" set. Again, we could keep it simple, forgo too much forum deliberation and just let the Custom Shop decide the details.

As a result...

Those who want a proper Custom/59 Neck model? WIN!

Those who want a hotter "hybrid" bridge model? WIN!

Those who want an entirely new set to have fun with? WIN!

See, it's a "Win, Win, Win!" ;)

Except I won't be able to afford any of 'em, what with buying a house. ;-)

Hell, I'm lucky I can afford food right now...

Sorry to hear that, man! At least you're getting a house out of the deal :)

Re: Hy-Bro 2015 p'up: "Let's get it over with" vote

I wonder ho many of you have actually spin some wire on a bobbin, and what the outcome was?

*raises hand* I know Jeremy and Firebird guy have done the some also.

As for the outcome? Lets say you win some you lose some. For me the challenge was/is repeatability. Have made a few gems...but hard to follow up with identical matches.

Re: Hy-Bro 2015 p'up: "Let's get it over with" vote

Yes, I've dabbled in pickup design over the past year now. Currently working on something quite non-traditional (can't tell you what though...it's still very much a work in progress).

Yeah, tell me about it! ;)

If everything goes well, next year I'm getting a CNC winder with an automated traverse and programmable tension setter. That's the only way to ensure repeatability... once you've learned to manage the curved balls the wire quirks of the same spool throws at you sometimes.:banghead:

all of the words on this thread make my head hurt. please show me where to go buy stuff. thank you.

Re: Hy-Bro 2015 p'up: "Let's get it over with" vote

I hope after today and the poll officially closes, the rest is up to the custom shop and then we just have to let them work their magic and then we are DONE! No more polls, no more anything.

I thought we could take a poll to see if we were really done or not...

Re: Hy-Bro 2015 p'up: "Let's get it over with" vote

There could always be a poll to decide whether there should be a custom logo or not :9: (troll troll troll, don't take my cocoa puffs :9::9::9:)

Re: Hy-Bro 2015 p'up: "Let's get it over with" vote

I wasn't around here for any of the other forum pickup creations. How does it work after we actually decide on the pickup? Do we have to place an order to the custom shop? I've been wanting a 59/C Hybrid bridge pickup for my parts guitar build, but I don't know if I should put a pearly gates in the neck or wait on this forum pickup.

Re: Hy-Bro 2015 p'up: "Let's get it over with" vote

Once the forum has a clear idea of what to build we present our request to the CS, they build a prototype or two, maybe give it to someone to test and then we commit to the build. Last few times it was through an e-mail directly to the CS with our information and payment method.

In any case there'll be an announcement here

Re: Hy-Bro 2015 p'up: "Let's get it over with" vote

So the poll will "officially" close in 30 minutes. What then?
