This is what we have:
* No clean slate. The concept of an Hybrid neck companion for the '59/Custom stays and goes forward. This means the p'up will be made with two coils wound with two different wire gauges and insulation types (AWG#42 Plain Enamel and AWG#43 SPN aka Single Poly Nylon)
* No Form Factor preferences, so whatever the Custom Shop decides to come up with can not be challenged.
* Two concepts for for development has being presented:
* the Pearly Gates screw coil/Perpetual Burn slug coil concept, gently offered by Frank Falbo, and an
* underwound version of the 59/Custom
WE can decide by voting a voicing:
* LtKojak proposal:
"In the lows you should be clearly hearing the "sound of the wood", just without the big "thunk" present on the '59n; plenty of definiton on the mids, with a sharp but not overbearing pick attack a la Jazz neck, with plenty of "air" and "chime" when the presence control on the amp is engaged. With this voicing, just by using the tone control you can play modern Jazz without losing articulation or definition with complex chords, rolling the tone control down, and at the same time to cut through the mix with soaring leads or complex riffing with a fair amount of gain, never losing he required definion and/or articulation with the tone control full-up.
This should give kinda "universal appeal", as you can play just about any kind of music with'em, just by tweakings magnets. I can imagine this neck p'up will sound great with A2, A3, A4 and a short A5, depending on musical context."
*** Past Tone description proposal:
"The hybrid concept is based on getting a good hybrid pickup in the neck position to pair with the 59/Custom. It will be made as a original set, the voicing starts with the 59/Custom but will have more upper mid focus, more controlled bass, cleaner, clearer. It will still have the hybrid complexity. Whether it will be made with 2 different wire gauges, or just have mismatched coils is yet to be determined. "
*** Last Resort Proposal:
"Let the Custom Shop decide everything having the sole instruction of make a NECK version of the '59/Custom and offer'em as a set"
That's everything in a nutshell... if I am missing something?
If I don't further piss anybody else off, I'll be putting the proposals for the voting tomorrow.
Sorry for the delay, but life got in the way and I've been preparing for tomorrow: I'll be mediating in the auditing of twelve members of our sales team unjustly blamed for the outcome of a series of bad decisions taken by the suits.
Wish me luck! :fingersx:
