Thanks for the reply , It seems this topic may be beaten far beyond recognition.
If I could give you some back ground info. I am a long time Schenker fan and nearly all my friends were back in high school ( i.e. very long time ago)
The first tube amp I had was around 1978ish , fender black face bassman. In 2012 I went on a amp quest that has been a very long road. Many Marshall's , including a few years back a 2205 that I returned , a JCM 900 dual reverb that I still miss , a DSL 40c I don't miss , a JMD 50wasbetter than the DSL , a jcm 2000 dsl 100 that I don't miss. Now I have just 2 amps a 515o lll lbx 15w and a cheapo Bugera V22. Bugera does more clean.
The song I am obsessed with is "Let It Roll " ***** of a song to play but not his most difficult. I have a Dean import "V" and a Gibson explorer
This one? I was futzing with it a few months ago... rough draft.
'57 classics, SG into '68 plexi. No wah.
LLL , that sounds good. I like what you did with it ! are you doubling that fast melody with a low octave ? That sounds very much like what he does on the studio version.
I like the tone are you using a overdrive ? My version is a project on going. Many mistakes.
SH-5 ceramic . I am going more vintage tone , I hope.
Hells bells he has had a million different set ups. No matter what he sounds like himself. I just listened to him play a acoustic version of lipstick traces and it was amazing.
It will work to what extent ? The early tone is 1971 gibson medallion v with t-tops in to a marshall 4 hole.
I am definitely not him and it is quite a lot of work out just playing this one song . I know I'm not him jesus dude, but I can still try. You can't except defeat. I kind of thought it was a waste of time to post this here (you have confirmed that ACE ) but it was exciting to me. By the way Ace could never pull it off . LolOK - here comes the bitter pill:
Lot's of guys have done far more than cop Schenker's tone with a wide variety of tools. So - since that is the case, it would seem the problem is in your fingers. You are not able to do it.
Sorry man - as has been said by numerous players "I was there on stage with [my hero]. He asked if I wanted to play through his rig. I couldn't believe it!!! I picked up [insert hero here] and I sounded nothing like him."
It happens. But as Boston said - "I gotta keep on chasing that dream...." Me? I'll be on my way....
Good luck
I get that , the thing is LLL there are so many posts about this subject it should have it's own sub forum. It would be a lot easier to navigate. I read something about a sh-5 posted and a full shred 10 or 11 years ago and the guy said : ( I had a full shred in the bridge and my friend said it sounds just like schenker) Does your friend play guitar ? Schenker what period ? Then in another post I read duncan doesn't make a pickup that is a copy of the T-Top. I am Chrysalis records or bust era. Nothing after. There are countless amp clones , his current wah set up is nothing like the old set up. I would love to have a jmp but not at this time. Will power !

I have reluctantly posted this but not to show any ability just where I am tone wise now. Go to about 1:34 . I have to question the internet sometimes it seems people really don't know anything ! (not you LLL)

Jesus Christ.
Schenker played through a 4-hole 50-watt Marshall through 4x12s. I am fairly certain his volume settings never went below 7 or 8. Do you know how loud that is? That's "neighbors called the cops on me" loud.
SH-5 ceramic . I am going more vintage tone , I hope.
Look , I get what you are saying Ace , not calling you out on it but at the same time I will still try to get where I am going , even though it may not work and I am going at it in a round about way. What I am getting at is I would like positive input if you have good info. So much nonsense on the net.I am just researching but of course the conversations were years ago so most people move on and I will to. I am not saying I don't want a plexi , I stated I had a 2205 briefly Michael use's those. The one I had when I got it home had almost been torn out of the chassis ( probably dropped) It was old and I was liking the lead channel but my old long gone JCM 900 DR 2 x 12 combo could do pretty good as well as my long gone JMD50w ( I know it has non tube pre amps) I ended up with 2 cheaper amps both lower wattage . EVH 5153 LBX and a Bugera V22.Here is an example - and we already said this: Vintage Schenker is not a Custom. All wrong. But keep hoping. Maybe the magic tone fairy will show up and rewind it and replace the magnet while you sleep.
Guys here answered who all know a lot about pickups, and love Schenker. If you know more then go fix its and tell us all how to do it. Why are you asking us?
$10 says you never show up with the Uber-tone and say "Told you"
I have a bunch of the clips I saved , most have tons of mistakes. This one does to. It is my playing , I play it and give up for a while but always go back to it.M.S. did use the SH-5 Custom for a period of time, but that was after the UFO/MSG era.
And always keep in mind that album tone is a mirage... there's always post-production done in the studio that polishes the tone, etc...
Yeah, just like in the real world, there's a lot of BSers online who make incorrect claims and/or talk a big game.
At best, they mislead others and spread misinformation... and at worst, they get touted as some kind of tone and gear messiah.
Can't hear the clip because the link is gone.
