I am looking for a poweramps...

Re: I am looking for a poweramps...

The marshall 50/50 EL34 is a beast. It will stand up to everything you throw at it, with the classic marshall roar when cranked. Its stereo too. Mesa'a 50 watter is just as good, but more expensive.

Re: I am looking for a poweramps...

The Mesa 50/50 is stereo, and runs on 6L6's. The older ones are cheaper and have a cool feature that the new ones do not have, it can be run at half power. Well they call it a "half power" switch but I think it is actually something like 15 watts each side !!

I have owned more than a few power amps over the years, and to ME ( my personal preference only) I keep returning to the Mesa 50/50 for a stereo power amp. It just nails the tone that I like the best with the 6L6's. Of course if you have a fellow guitarist in your band that likes to get into "volume wars" with you , I highly recommend the Mesa Boogie Strategy 400, TRUST ME!!!! :laugh2:  :laugh2:

My favorites for each tube type are as follows:

6L6's = Mesa 50/50
EL 84's = Mesa 20/20 or Peavey 50/50 Classic
El 34's = Marshall 50/50 or the ADA T100 ( if you can pry one away from someone)

Once again these are only MY personal preferences, but to me they sound the best from each power tube type.

GOOD LUCK !!!!!!

Re: I am looking for a poweramps...

I have a Marshal EL34 100/100 in my rack and I love it. I would imagine the 50/50 has the same tone but 1/2 the wattage. With a preamp in front of it, these things can get very, very, VERY loud!!! :D

Re: I am looking for a poweramps...

I use a Peavey 6L6 power section with my Boss GT-6 as a pre and get very good tones. I'm dying to try the new Carvin power section, though, as it can be configured with 6L6'sor EL34's on either side. I can use the 6L6's with my Fender presets on the GT-6 and the EL34's with my Marshall style presets using a footswitch to go back and forth... Oh the humanity. :)

Re: I am looking for a poweramps...

What kind of preamp are you using with it? I'm using a Marshall 8008, which is solid state, but it puts out 80 watts a side. I like it.

Re: I am looking for a poweramps...

looking for stereo or mono? also remember, mesa 2:90's do not have seperate standby switches, so you HAVE to run in stereo, or plug in a dummy resistor/some kind of load.

i myself make a mono power amp.

Re: I am looking for a poweramps...

When I was looking at rack systems a while back, one name was synonymous with quality... VHT. Much more transparent and articulate than Marshall or Mesa from what I can gather. (If I were to ever get a rack system, I'd get the Limited Edition one).

Re: I am looking for a poweramps...

Randall RT2/50!

It is a two channel and runs both 6L6 and EL34s. Plus, when a tube goes out, it lets you know which one, and you can replace it, and bias it your self using the power tube bias section. It goes down and you are up and running in five minutes. I can't say enough about this amp. It can also run 5881, 6CA7, and 6550 tubes. Trust me, and check it out.

The only thing I would change, is to put better tubes in it.
