I am SICK and TIRED of the stock nut on my Les Paul!!!

Re: I am SICK and TIRED of the stock nut on my Les Paul!!!

If you do go for TUSQ, and you still have tuning issues, it at least eliminates the nut as a source.

If the TUSQ nut or any nut is cut for 9's then it will still give problems when strung with 10's. I got rid of my tuning nightmares by going from 10s to 9s.

What would be the best quality replacement in your opinion? I think I'm going to settle on a nice quality, good ol' bone nut but I've considered TUSQ etc...

My guitar tends to go out of tune when I perform heavy bends. This is a problem because of my style, since I'm so hard on the strings with my fretting hand when it comes to techniques such as this.

I stretch the strings out almost until they break and they still go out of tune somewhat after every song.

I assume this mostly normal, but sometimes it's audible enough to where it bothers me.

I've worked on the nut slots. I've cleaned them and made sure the strings are not pinched.

Is this just the nature of the beast? I know everyone says the gibson headstock and the tuner layout is flawed...

Be nice about my guitar, she's my baby.

Best replacement, in my opinion either bone or if you want to be accurate to a 50's Gibson 6/6 nylon. I currently have bone my Les Paul but the next one will likely be nylon.

If you're guitar goes out of tune during a "heavy bend" you either have a fret hand technique that needs to be adjusted and/or worked with or (and this is more likely the issue) you're guitar needs a great set up.

If you wear out strings quickly then you have to replace them often...I have a very aggressive technique with both my right and left hand and when I'm gigging strings are changed after every gig...when I'm recording they are replaced daily... It's just something I have to do.

A properly set up guitar can and will stay in tune no matter what the headstock shape as long as it has fresh, quality strings.

Take your guitar to a good luthier, get a good nut put on and have it set up properly from nut to bridge and leave no part of it to chance.

If you do that, put on some quality strings and maybe, just maybe put a dab of Big Bends nut sauce in each nut slot and on the bridge saddles you should be more than fine

Seems that this particular LP has brought nothing but trouble. Sell it and get a couple of Ibanez LP style and Epiphones.

Curious what strings you use?

I use a small dab of superlube in the nut slots and at the saddles to help keep everything moving smoothly but I would certainly get a pro tech to check it out.
