I bought a new Solid State amp today

Re: I bought a new Solid State amp today

I think most ss amps with 12inch speakers have a good clean channel. They usually fall apart with gain though. i am very impressed with Fender ss.

The odd part was the clean channel sucking..... A Fender amp and being solid state i thought the clean channel would sing and ring..... it's poop... Maybe it's the speaker in my cab...
You should try different speaker cabs. Marshall cabs are not designed specifically for clean sounds.

Re: I bought a new Solid State amp today

Ya i should try it thru other cabs for sure..... The clean channel on my Princton Chorus amp sounds wonderful with a strat, but the speakers crap out with a little wee bit of volume! They distort on the low notes...... In the late 80's i used to run a Princton Chorus amp and a solid state Marshall Lead 30.... Lead 30 if i remember the model right..... I'd run them in stereo.... what a sound that gave! I bought and sold 3 different Princton Chorus amps over the years. My original one had the red knobs on it.... then in the 90's i bought 2 different ones plus an Ultra Chorus amp..... wish i still had the Ultra chorus amp! That amp had a real nice spacy clean channel!!!! And before DSP stuff came along in the late 90's the Ultimate and Princton chorus amps had great sounding analog chorus's.... These amps sounded better to me clean then the Roland Jazz Chorus series... I must remember to kick myself hard later today for ever selling my Fender Ultra Chorus! I sold it for $300 about 8 years ago to a kid that really wanted it... I used to love the Pink Floyd type clean tones i could get out of the Ultra....

I think you've got too much stuff and you have to get rid of some of them if you want to get more gears.

Re: I bought a new Solid State amp today

I use a FM 212R, great combo amp. Loud as FSCK!!

I'm planning on purchasing the head version soon and one of those Randall cabs with the 2x12's on top, and a 15" on the bottom.

You have no idea how true that is......

I think real trouble is too much cheap stuff and not enough quality stuff

Re: I bought a new Solid State amp today

Anyways i was out jamming a bit tonight.... well just me and a drummer... i had the Fender head and my 1x12 Marshall 1912 cab, my older Jackson Dinky with a JB.... The clean channel didn't sound that bad with that guitars neck humbucker.... i got the volume up to about 3 on both channels... anymore and the guy next door could hear loud and clear.... maybe he could anyways... That Marshall cab was just a movin! The speaker was pumping the bass and you could feel the cab vibrating seriously... It has a 150watt speaker in it and should be able to take the abuse.... besides it was only on 3.... i used my 5150 head thru this at loud volumes a lot in the past anyways...

We ended up recording some with it.... He had a little wee mic infront of the Marshall..... I think the mic was meant to record Saxaphones/brass... i cut the gain back a bit to help make the recording sound bigger and better and it sounded pretty good! I over powered his drum kit on a lot of the takes so you could hear me just fine. The amp surprised me, and sounded good on the recording! I wanted to try the Direct XLR output on the back of the amp but we ran out of time as his kids were off to bed. We recorded thru a mixer and into his computer. I used a little Delay on the Fender amp..... there is a few settings on the DSP effects that i like... I was using the Phaser for Zeppelin's Ten Years Gone and it sounded great!!!! i need to learn how to play Achilles Last Stand!!!!

Well i was surprised anyways.....

Glad you'd made a good deal and liked it.
May be you should think quality instead of quantity from now on.

Re: I bought a new Solid State amp today

Just wondering if any one knows if the footswitch for these Fender amps has a button to turn the extra gain on and off....
