I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

I don't succumb to GAS very often, but I'm afraid that this is going to push me over the edge. I'm such a huge strat nerd to begin with, and with all of the comments that I've heard in several different places... My guitar weenie is absolutely standing at attention over that guitar.

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

Oh, yeah- I couldn't be more proud for you. Congratulations on the purchase of a keeper.

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

The more that I think about this... (yeah, this thing is starting to get to me...lol)

That guitar looks almost identical to my Hamer Daytona.

I need to go play an EJ strat to personally evaluate the thing, but I have to slip in a mention that Hamer was definitely on the right path when they offered the Daytona in the first place. A great strat made by a company who wanted to improve on the current state of the strat by going back to producing something closer to the vintage models.

I guess the thing that amazes me the most is just how dead-on Leo was in the first place.

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

Forget my last post. I don't know what I was thinking. Hamers suck like crazy. They have no resale value (not that you would ever want or need to resell it), blah, blah, blah...

You know my bit- they suck! lol

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

As much as the EJ is a smooth player and is easy to get along with...meaning that it is one awesome strat:D
I have my eyes set on of one of their customshop ones, having tried the 1954 replica...which was like playing a few of those others old strats I have tried, meaning one awesomely huge sound.
Fender are on the roll these days:)
And that is one extremely nice strat sir:)

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

the pickups.. i believe, are wound by abigail ybarra .. which is pretty much fenders counterpart of MJ.. and eric worked CLOSELY when they were specing out this axe, and he does know a thing or two about guitars and tone

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

Yeah Rid...some of the custom shop axes are Sooooooo sweet. I loved my Malmsteen sig, despite some of it's "modernisms" (scalloped neck, brass nut, DiMarzios) it FELT and sounded like an old strat, not like the MIA production models..which just don't feel like a Strat should to me.

But if I could have afforded at the time the 62 closet classic I played, I would have had that..amazing strat.

This EJ model seems like the best bang for the buck in Fender's lineup!

Awwww crap..here I am in a Strat thread...

GAS has commenced...

D@MN YOU ALL!

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

My uncle knew eric johnson in high school. He gave my unlce his first guitar! He signed it too!!! ITs a ****ty guitar though.:)

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

Cool. You should start a club here on SD for guys with the EJ strat. I think you make 3 or 4!!

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

WoW that is a good looking strat and i'm not really a strat guy or into the traditional fender bursts, but that one actually is stunning!

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

I really like the tint on the neck on yours. The one we have locally is almost orange. It's the only downside to that particular EJ.

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

Mine will be here tomorrow... Candy Apple Red... yummy.

Re: I bought the Eric Johnson Strat!

I just had a thought. The Eric Clapton strat sold pretty well, but what if the Eric Johnson strat outsells it by 5 times? It'd be funny if the EJ outsells all the US 57's and 62's. It might. I wish they'd decide to offer another EJ with a rosewood fretboard, and maybe a few new colors!

I think Fender finally released the most perfect strat they've ever sold.

Good point. It just might considering the reviews of it and all. I like the colors offered but yes, a couple more would be nice.

At least since the pre-CBS era.

I had the chance to finally try one. Played a couple chords and a few quick licks on it and handed it back to the guy. Not in disgust but because had I played it any longer I would have gotten myself in to a whole lot of trouble. :laugh2:
