I can't find a guitar I dig!

Re: I can't find a guitar I dig!

+1
I love all my guitars. All them make me playing in a different way.

I think my mind has just narrowed it down.

I'm not gonna lie, even with my profound annoyance with Gibson, the scale and the construction could be a nice addition, considering my PRS is a bolt on neck, and my other electric is also a bolt on (with single coils).

Now, the biggest challenge of all : to find a gibson that I like, lol.

(Doesn't have to be gibson brand, just based on their designs)

Re: I can't find a guitar I dig!

^ I guess I should have been clearer about my price range. I'm gonna try and stick at around 1200-1500$.

So yeah, those gibsons and the PRS and nice, but I can't afford them. Can't say I'm a fan of the shape of that jackson either. Might give it a shot if I see one in store.

You know what dude, those explorers aren't looking to shabby right now. I can honestly say I have never played a Gibson explorer, and I don't even know why.

Interesting.

I find they balance well, and have incredible sound.
I love how flat they feel as the neck doesn't come out at any angle off the body, super speedy IMHO of course.

Re: I can't find a guitar I dig!

Like I said, I am a humbucker kinda guy.
I traditionally am fond of maple necks with light finishes, and love locking tuners.
I would ideally like something with no trem.
My favorite body wood combo is mahogany and maple, and when it's just 1 wood, mahogany.
I don't want another 24 fret guitar. It's nice for certain pieces, but I want that sweet spot that a 24 fretter can't offer.
It needs to be light. Not fond of heavy instruments.

I like I6's idea. I think I just need to wait until something with real life shows up, and jump on it no matter what it is.

On the day I left the house with 100% intent to drop 4 digits on a Gibson Les Paul, I came home with a $269 Epiphone Dot Studio. **** happens.

Oh, and, at the risk of getting slightly off your description of things you want, I find this guitar to be incredibly intriguing, an I know it feels good and "just right."

So yeah, I am open to so many things, because I have preferences, but nothing set it stone. Sedans are not like guitars : guitars have character and life even within 2 guitars of the same model, made by the same person, on the same day. If a guitar is great, I will prefer it to the ideal guitar for me. Besides, I have already found my ''perfect'' guitar, and what I am looking for is something different (difference for recording mostly), so it won't be 100% of what I want, or it would be another CE24.

Mahogany body, maple top, birds eye maple neck and fingerboard with gun oil tint, JB in the bridge G&L bucker in the neck / w coil tap for both, master volume, Schaller locking tuners. I bought mine used but it was in mint condition. Mine is the semi hollow version, they are also available in non f hole semi and of course solid body.

Oh and it's also light.

this is too much $$ for a backup guitar imo. its hard to keep track of everything at a gig, and loosing a pretty penny speaks to me. I say go with foreign fender or cheapie prs or epi.

No worries. I have someone who travels with me to gigs, helps me set up, and keeps an eye on my stuff. He doesn't know much about guitar, but he is a massive dude, and he enjoys music a lot, and being part of the live music scene. I guess you could call him the band bouncer-roady.

Man, those Asats are killer.... drool.

Re: I can't find a guitar I dig!

The blue ASAT Special I posted is a Tribute model --- they go for $599 brand new, and feel better in every way than MIA Fenders.

Re: I can't find a guitar I dig!

Just take your time and don't rush into buying something you're not entirely happy with. It maybe part not finding a guitar thats right for you, part you not in the right headspace for some reason. Good guitars are out there, just take your time and play through a few duds first.

What kind of pickups are on it though? They don't looks like singles, soaps or buckers...?

They are totally their own thing. Image is a link.

The patented G&L Magnetic Field Design® pickups use a ceramic bar magnet installed underneath each coil, with soft iron adjustable pole pieces to transfer the magnetic field to the top of the pickup. By contrast, traditional Alnico type pickups, such as used in the Legacy and George Fullerton models, use non-adjustable Alnico pole pieces leaving the only adjustment being pickup height. The Magnetic Field Design has this adjustment, but further offers individual adjustment of each pole piece, letting the player effectively adjust the output of each string on each pickup. Magnetic Field Design yield about twice the output per wind, making the pickup quieter while allowing a greater overall output. The sound of Magnetic Field pickups is slightly warmer with a broader frequency response.

From your pictures, it appears the difference between you and me is that you actually play your guitar. That looks gorgeous, by the way.

Re: I can't find a guitar I dig!

I like that P-90 Thinline a lot - I just don't want the Jimmy Eat World guitar. :(

Re: I can't find a guitar I dig!

if i were in your situation, I would go to every SECOND HAND store around. That way you'll have a broader range of axes new and old. Personally I would look into some kind of Fender. You've got most bases covered with that PRS, get a Tele or a Strat to fill in the gaps. It doesn't make much sense IMHO if you want just two functional guitars that function nearly the same way. Other than having a backup, one guitar is going to end up playing second fiddle.
