I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

Re: I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

I've heard nothing but great things about the new Taylor electrics.

Where'd that thread go about what current production model is going to be a highly collectible classic in 20 or 30 years? The new Taylor electrics may be them! And if they're not, all the better since they'll be great playing and sounding guitars that can still be found at affordable prices used!

Re: I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

Cool guitars for sure. Congrats. You do realize that Tayor's pics aren't good enough - we've seen those, we want to see the one you got. Did you get the classic like in the pic, or one of the other models?

I wouldn't mind having one, but I can't afford it, nor can I justify another guitar right now. I've purposefully not picked one up the last couple times I've been in GC. Last I was there they had one each of the classic, standard, and custom.

Thanks. I got the classic, the white one. The others were in the $1,700-$2,500. Walking out of the door with this baby for $950 was a steal so I could not pass it up.

I am the kind of guy who buys a great deal when it is around. Good luck never finds me when I am actively looking for something. The thing is that I compared this to a couple of Music Mans. One had a Piezzo and everything and it would have only costed $150 more.

I will post some close ups of if for you guys pretty soon. I just hope that a couple of the forum bros give them a fair shot through a good amp. I hope that I am not the only person impressed by them.

Re: I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

Respectfully, I assume it would be something retarded. lol

hahaha yeah, blueman's one of the last 100% Gibson Guys i know. You could give him a brand-new custom shop Fender and he'd be like, "Oh sweet, i needed some firewood." or maybe just sell it and buy 10 Epiphones...

Still, i gotta respect to a guy who gets his Strat tones out of a 335. That just seems to defy science, God, and nature ALL AT ONCE, which is something i can get into.

anyway back on topic:

I would like pix and clips of this Taylor in action. It's kinda piqued my interest cuz i've been craving a single-cutaway guitar for the last like year or two...

I should have yesterday, but I went in for strings, and had I plugged a Taylor into the used Bad Cat Hot Cat 30 sitting in the store, I might have been in trouble (though, they wanted way too much for a used Bad Cat, but their used gear is always very bloated). Anyway, I wish they'd increase their color offering.

Re: I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

How is access to the upper registers..... The photos make it look lightly worse than a Les Paul. Real nice looking guitar though.

I have had my eyes on this one for a while so I sat around for a couple of hours in the Guitar Center amp room and played this against the Strat. I have to say that I am extremely impressed with this guitar. I'll tell you about it because everyone who is interested in buying a quality guitar should try this one.

First the neck is fast and smooth. It plays very evenly. These are some stock pups that you want to keep. They have great definition, punch, and smooth characteristics. Suprisingly enough metal sounds are easily obtainable with this guitar. The bridge is superb and very comfortable to play. The tuners are Taylor manufactured and STAY in tune. It feels a little heavier than a Strat, but the tone is thick and rich with excellent harmonics and crunch.

I love the volume knob. It works so very well and I am impressed. It really does clean up the tone without sucking the tone out. From clean to heavy distortion this guitar is amazing. I need not mention how well sweep picking works on it. The notes flutter clearly as you sweep with no crosstalk.

Examining this guitar up close will reveal a true eye for detail and quality craftsmanship. This does not come with a gig back as shown. It comes with a nice brown tweed case.

Personally (since you asked) I don't understand why anyone would play a Fender when there's LP's, SG's, and 335's out there. You're right, I wouldn't want to own a Strat, custom shop or otherwise. Life's too short to play Fenders (there's a quote for you!). I get my single coil sounds from P-90's, Phat Cat's, and coil-cut HB's. Combined with HB's, that covers the bases for me. Warmth is where it's at, baby.

There are all kinds of guys that only play Fenders (which everyone seems to think is okay), and on the other side of the fence, believe it or not, there are others like me that don't care for the "F" word. Yes, we're in the minority, but so are believers in many noble causes. It's not all about numbers you know. We're quite self-confident and not as vocal about our tastes, which is why a nominating committee has chosen me as a spokesman to present the opposing point of view when the Strat boys get carried away & lose touch with reality. We're a grassroots movement, and welcome reformed Fender-owners with our 10-point recovery program, which corrects their hearing disorders and introduces them to the concept of midrange.

Ha!

Not at all. Upper fret access is better than my Strat and Les Paul. The countour if the cutaway is really weird because it fits your hand so comfortably. You just rest your hand there and play all day on the upper frets.

I'm telling you. A lot of consideration was put into this guitar when they designed it. It looks very simple but has all practical features and build quality you would expect.

Re: I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

Great man, glad it turned out to be such a great buy!!!

I actually want to go and take a look at one here when I have the chance.

Are those with the full-sized HBs different/more expensive?

Yes a lot more expensive. They range from about $1700 to $2500. I tell you though, everyone is skeptical about the mini humbuckers but they sound phenomenal. Taylor has really thought through the design of this guitar extremely well. These are the kind of pickups you will want to leave stock. I'll try to post some decent clips.

Re: I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

Yeah, I found the specs.

The one you got was from Swamp Ash with Maple neck and Rosewood fretboard while the other two are from "Sapele" (never heard of it) neck and body with Ebony fingerboard and a figured Maple or Walnut top....

Yeah, seeing how they said they built those guitars around the pickups I bet you know what you're talking about... ;)

Mini-HB's are way under-utilized. A mini neck & a full HB bridge is a very good pairing. Along with P-90's, they should a regular for neck PU's on a lot of factory guitars. A pair of mini's is also nice. And three mini's may have a better-sounding middle PU than three full-size HB's do.

We don't need so many twin HB guitars!

Re: I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

It's a sort of mahogany. Or, if not actually in the same genetic family, is considered to be very similar to it. I've never been 100% clear on that. I've seen it called "Sapele mahogany" on a few occaisions, but...

Taylor's been using it for years. I think Martin and Larivee do too.

the other two are from "Sapele" (never heard of it)

Re: I Didn't Get The Strat, I Got This!

I played all of those new Taylor solid bodies a couple of weeks ago and thought they were pretty nice.

Good score! White guitars are sexy.
