I don't know what I want!

I've got some money recently since I've passed my matura exams pretty good :smokin:

So here's the deal... I think that buying a new guitar wouldn't hurt much, but I don't know what would suit me best.

I've already got Epi G400 with '59A4/C8 and Gibby SG with A5 Phat Cats. And I'm playing on Peavey Classic 30, but I will have to replace it (more in Amplifier Central).

I've wanted to build a guitar since I've started to play, but after some calculations and wood accessibility in Poland I've came to conlcusion that it's to pricey challange.

Since I'm moving to flat I will be limited to probably only one guitar. So the versatility is the crucial part. However I don't want to have a competitor in every challenge, I'd rather have fewer, but more usable sounds.

Generally I play mostly classic rock, metal some stoner stuff. Think Zeppelins, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, QotSA, (I've got guitars for those), but I also adore shredders like Vai, Satch, DiMeola or McLaughlin (and not for those).

The guitar I've wanted to build in the beginning was a simple 1H 1Vol Floyded bolt on as an alternative for fixed bridge solid SGs. I've always wanted to have a guitar with tremolo bridge, but the floydy one, not the strat type trem.

To finally sum up... "I think" I want floyd equipped guitar that would be "technical playing friendly". It would be nice if the sound would be still rich and full, but articulate and easily cutting through.

So please send me your ideas. Every one of them will be welcome :)
BTW My price range is to around 1k$, BUT since I'm not from the US there is no strict limit for the price.

Re: I don't know what I want!

you could look into a Charvel or maybe the EVH stripped series if you want a humbucker and a floyd trem. Hot pickups, floyd and compound radius.....perfect for rock

Re: I don't know what I want!

Sadly there are no EVH gutiars in Poland.
And about Charvels... yes, they're available, somewhare like ~10 from the 80's and 90's :D Nothing from the last few years.

I've just found nice Ibby S1520 with figured bubinga top and I have to say that it's pretty tasty. And here is the link for auction (on Polish equivalent of craiglist):
http://allegro.pl/ibanez-s1520-1520-fb-prestige-japan-custom-pickups-i4445001929.html
What do You think?

Also... I don't care if the stock pups are good or not, because I don't have a problem with changing pups and even have some ideas that wait for a good guitar :)

EDIT: Did I mention I don't like lacquered fretboards?

Re: I don't know what I want!

Can you not order from online retailers in poland? Im not sure if musicians friend or sweetwater ships over seas or not

Re: I don't know what I want!

I would not use a Floyd guitar if I could only have one available. You lose a lot of versatility. Particularly when it comes to alternate tunings.

If you want an all-rounder, I'd get a Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 S2.

Their trem systems with locking tuners are super stable, and allow you to drop-tune with ease.

I love Ibanez RG's but I would never pay more than a grand for one.

Also, is there any particular reason you're using a Bass Big Muff?

Arrgh, if 80s Charvels are available, then GO FOR IT. That's like having 1959 LPs available! And seeing as you don't like lacquered boards, the Charvel would appeal to you as well.

But the ibby prestige will do just as well, if not better. The Charvel can have a better resale price if you advertise it as a 'vintage from the 80s'

My thoughts too! My Charvels sound rich and full even tho they have trems and adding a large brass block kicks em up a notch.

Plus, you can easily block a trem. Not so easy to take a non trem guitar and add one..

I started this before seeing your last post about availability. some places ship world wide. ??

Re: I don't know what I want!

You have to take into consideration the laws for importing into your country and fees, taxes and added costs like that. So don't spend it all on the guitar.

EDIT: Did I mention I don't like lacquered fretboards?

If you hate lacquered fretboard then Charvel San Dimas (Japan) made around 2011 is the right choice. The fretboard absorbs dirt and all **** on the fingers. Can you order from Musik Schmidt in Germany or something?

Re: I don't know what I want!

I would prefer to avoid getting guitars from US and from others countries, because the taxes, customs and shipping costs would be at least half the price of instrument.

I will have to take a look on those Charvels. And when it comes to PRS they are craaazy overpriced in Poland.

I use the bass big muff, because it's not so harsh and scooped as the regular one. And the 3-pos switch give some verastility. When I'm playing on dirty channel I set it on the DRY position and it adds some nice wooliness to the sound. Many people think that the normal mode is very similiar to the green russian muff and the bass boost is great as a weapon of doom and mass destruction :D

EDIT: I've just found S2 Starla which costs just a little less than LP Traditional (both brand new)

Re: I don't know what I want!

I've played on my friends strat it was very uncomofrtable for me. Square neck joint (maybe I'm a little spoiled by SG) and the middle pickup constantly rubbed by pick. I would say that I've also didn't like the pickups, but it's easily replacable. Oh! and the tremolo that doesn't stay in tune.

I know it's great guitar, but just not my cup of tea.

Re: I don't know what I want!

Look into Prestige Guitars, in Vancouver, BC. You will be amazed at what you can get for $1000.00 US.

I have a musician Pro, with a Bigsby, and I love it. There's a photo in my first post in the "Let's See Your Duncans" thread.

The entire S2 line is extremely affordable, when you consider what you're getting.

But if you end up hunting for a Mira, get one of the original models back to 2008 I believe, you'll get 2 extra frets and better appointments in general for the same price as an S2 on the used market.

Re: I don't know what I want!

If you live in Poland, shouldn't you be be able to order from EU countries free of customs and additional tax?

I've ordered a lot of stuff from Germany and it has always gone well.

Regarding the guitar; buying used gives you more guitar for the money. 80s charvels can be very good. I'd look at all kinds of used MIJ guitars.
