I fell in love today...

Ok. Here's the story. I'll try to keep it short. Afterwards, your advice is appreciated. At any rate, I might have to leave my lady of many years. Here goes:

I have been looking at e/acoustics for about a month, because I think it might be time to replace my Yamaha. I won't get into why, but it probably is time to leave her. You remember my thread about the Ibanez EAS 10? Nice axe for the price, but upon revisiting her, she just didn't do it for me. I've been spoiled, and didn't even realize it.

I played several guitars, including a couple of Seagulls. They seemed nice, but they were so far out of tune that I didn't feel like taking the time to get them "just right", so, in all fairness, they probably didn't get a fair listen.

Then, I picked up a Takemine EAN 15C. Discontined, and with a clearance price. Retail was nearly $1500, sale price $799. Full-bodied dreadnought. Built in tuner. Schwwwweeeeettttt!

She almost would not need to be plugged in. She was LOUD! Full sound, clear highs, lows were good but could probably be drastically improved with new strings. Plugged in, she just SANG!

Sadly, I'm still saving for my Bro-in-law's Parker...:smack:

Re: I fell in love today...

Which do you need most, which do you WANT most? Rock< LesStrat> Hardplace. Good luck!

Re: I fell in love today...

Those Takamine's are nice. A freind of a friend of a friend has one that I played last week and it was sweet and had me jonesing for an accoustic. But I in the process of buying my new mockingbird.

Re: I fell in love today...

now haven't i been preaching Takamines since i've been here...where you been bro!!!

lol....well you know you have to get it!!!

seriously though...i've played just about every brand and model of acoustic guitar...(not the all the boutiques, but you know what i mean), and there's only two guitars i like better (not better, but as well!?)than my tak....a Gibson Hummingbird...and any Taylor...they all have a unique "voice", and those are the ones that have ALWAYS spoken to me!?

Re: I fell in love today...

Have you ever heard the James Bond theme song "You only live twice"?

Let's see... 196?

Well, may be not, but check out the lyrics.

Re: I fell in love today...

I know, Mike, I know. I was looking at the Ibanez again, and it just didn't do it.

But the Tak was sweet....

Re: I fell in love today...

The two best acoustics I've ever played, out of Waldon, Garrison, Martin, Gibson, Fender, Seagull, Yamaha, Samick and every other guitar maker I can think of, is a full sized dreadnaught from Marlboro (yeah, the cigarette company) and an OM style Sears-Roebuck guitar. The sears one might be for sale for the right price :D

Re: I fell in love today...

Ok, now I've REALLY messed up. I played her again.

:smack: :smack: :smack:

I started with the Seagulls. Nice axes, but just didn't have that magic...

I played a 2002 LE Takamine Santa Fe. Really nice, but had a spruce top and was obviously brighter. I placed it on a stand in front of me and spent several minutes playing something on one, then comparing the same lick/riff with the other.

It's been a long time since a guitar has affected me this way.

I LOVE THAT TAK! The EAN15C, not the EAN11C.

The store offers 6 months interest free financing...

*must resist temptation...*:smack:

*struggling with the impulse to drive back to the store*

Re: I fell in love today...

Dude, if you want it THAT bad, you KNOW you have to get it. Stop debating and go to the store NOW! You will not regret it.

We had the non-cutaway version of that at the store where I used to work. Lovely guitar. The best in the store, even compared to Top-of-the-line Garrisons, other Tak's, custom one-off's, and top Ovation and Yamahas.

Do yourself a favour, buy it while you can. They are very hard to come by, and think about it, would you really want a used one later? :saeek:

You won't regret it.

Re: I fell in love today...

Have you played a Walden, Essay? I'm tellin' you, if you haven't, you need to. It's been years since I was blown away by an acoustic, but... I'm just sayin'...

Re: I fell in love today...

Nice guitar. I'd snag it for that price. Takamine is the only other brand of acoustic I would consider buying other than what I have now, a Martin D-28. I love my Martin. It's one I will never part with.

Re: I fell in love today...

Martins are great, and I have played Takamines which I would compare to Martins, but I still think Normans are worth looking at. Seaguls are hit and miss - some are really nice while others are lemons.

Re: I fell in love today...

I think Takamines have a great live sound...great onstage guitar.

Nothing special acoustically though.

So if you want an ax to play at church or onstage the Takamine is hard to beat.

If you're going to play it around the house or use it for songwriting or whatever I'd go for a used Taylor.

I think from an acoustic standpoint that a nice Taylor is just about impossible to beat unless you want to spend alot more for something like a Collings.

Collings are my favorite acoustic guitars right now, but they're very expensive.

If you really want it.. do it.

I was at the store yesterday and bought a Larrivee D-03 because I played it for over an hour; it felt that good in my hands and I loved the tightness of its big body. I though about it for another 1/2 hr. because it was a $1000CAN; a bit out of my budget.

Than someone started playing it while I was on the other side of the store and I heard how it's sound resonated and carried distance. It was a tight acoustic and just had to get it. I'll sell my Ovation... maybe.

If you are thinking about it that much, and it's half price, than do it if it fits into your budget.

TV.

Well, that's the problem. It would be a stretch.

Lew: This is a full-bodied acoustic. It resonates quite well acoustic OR plugged in. Rosewood sides/back, cedar top.

Rob: I've never seen a Walden.

If I REALLY wanted to break the bank, I would order one of these.
