I finally done it - i am getting a Strat. Need help please.

Re: I finally done it - i am getting a Strat. Need help please.

Is there any one here who made an ''alternative'' wired Strat ?
In other words, not your traditional 5 selector, but say, somethign liek this :

1) bridge
2) bridge + middle
3) bridge + neck <--------- no 'middle only' option.
3) middle + neck
5) neck

Can it be done ?

Yeah, but you need a super switch. I'd go with that, but wire the tone controls so that the one currently wired for the neck controls the middle as well, and the one currently wired for middle to control the bridge. That way you can tame the brightness of your bridge pickup if you want.

Fantastic . . . much appreciated ;)

You can also try a Schaller Megaswitch E

The Quarter Pounds are indeed fat, but still sound Stratty and quacky. They are just a very powerful single coil. It sounds kinda like you are gonna love them from your description.

Re: I finally done it - i am getting a Strat. Need help please.

Specs thus far :

I wanted a Mahogany body with a fixed bridge but he says they are impossible to find on this side of the world, so, i am getting:

* Alder body with a full size bridge
* chunky neck with medium jumbo frets and Rosewood board.
* S/S/S pick up config.
* Gotoh style tuners

CORRECTION :

. . . just spoke with the builder. It is not Alder as per se, but a 'Manchurian ash' body.

Re: I finally done it - i am getting a Strat. Need help please.

R14.7 SA Rand get me/us, only $1 USD Dollar :(

What does say a pack of strings cost?

Manchurian Ash is also known as Tamo or Japanese Ash. Sone can be very nice looking. Fender used some on the artist series of Telecasters.

South Africa :(

USA Dollar vs. SA Rand = 14.7 to 1.

Your guy's a joke.He pretty much just admitted he buys everything prebuilt for super cheap and shipped from China for <$100 total.

Tonewoods are EASIER to find on your continent, labor's a lot cheaper and even the restricted stuff is easy to come by since that's where it comes from originally, and mentioning Gotoh-"stye" tuners and refusal to do a hardtail = unwilling to spend >$10 ea on tuner set and bridge

Just buy things on Ebay for original Fender, it'll take an extra $20 - 30 shipping and an extra 5 days but it'll show up just fine...ROSEWOOD without documentation could be aproblem shipping internationally, but you can go with sellers who get documentation (japanese shippers seem great about that) or just go maple-maple

PS you dont want mahogany, that's not gonna sound like a strat no more. Alder or ash.

This guy is an opportunist crook. He's reselling cheap guitars from aliexpress or something,

That no electronics thing shouldve clued you in, he just rips out the atrocious electronics out of a $70 chinese strat because they gove away where he got what he's selling and that it is crap...but refusal to do any custom options and lookalike woods, that makes it 100% certain

You can get the exact same stuff or better for $100 or less. International shipping aint scary or involved or require any special skills connections licenses or anything

I am a big fan of this Megaswitch. You can do the same thing with a Super Switch, but with a regular Strat switch, I found that I never used the middle pickup alone. The way the MegaSwitch E works is the way all Strats should work (to me).

Same here.

Mega switches are easy to wire when you want them to do exactly what they’re designed to do :) I’ve never taken the time to learn about superswitches so megaswitches are my go-to.

And "gotoh style" tuners.

And this is partscasters.... mmmhm, yeah. He's ordering from china and marking everything up ~5x-10x

Re: I finally done it - i am getting a Strat. Need help please.

For fat sounds from a strat I like the fat 50s or the Eric Johnson set, the EJ being more vintage sounding but just warm enough to never ice pick. The EJ is the less hot of the two but I like old school bright strat pickups, I feel like when you get into overwinding like fat 50s, texas specials, and ssl-5, you lose that sparkle and chime that made me come to strats to begin with. If playing with overdive you can always get the amp/pedals to do more work, but things like ssl-5 and texas specials have too dark a clean tone for me. But on purely vintage sets, the bridge position is borderline useless for a lot of people I know. The EJ set is a great one for fixing the vintage strat ice pick without dorking the clean or in between tones. Just dunno if it's fat enough for you in the bridge.
