I FINALLY got chance to try out some amps.........

Re: I FINALLY got chance to try out some amps.........

Make sure your camera is sorted for the pics, and get them on here by tomorrow evening or else!!! :D

Re: I FINALLY got chance to try out some amps.........

so, you're gettin the SPlawn?? SAWEET!!

I wanted to mention about the clean channel... yeah, Like your first post, I was pleased when I got mine and the clean chan was better than I expected. For some reason people really talk them down.. It isnt bad.. One helpful thing the guy that sold me mine told me he learned on the splawn site is to add an eq (he sold me his MXR 10 band) to the clean.. I do this and add some mids and it gives it more dimension. keep me posted on the new amp ! look forward to pix!

I really love mine the more I play it! I recently sold 6 or 7 guitars to cover bills and the amp and I thought I was going to have a breakdown.. Now, Im playing all the remaining guitars thru it and deciding the ones that sound the best and Im gonna phase out the rest. So far the Kramer Pacer sounds the best!!

Deposit paid, so it's definitely NAD tomorrow :D

It's pretty much the first piece of gear, and definitely the 1st amp, I've bought from new :D

Nice. :) Congrats.

Interesting observation....

HC Forum hates Splawns
We (SDUGF) seem to love them. Coincidence? I think not... ;)

I'm loving the Quick Rod I snagged a week ago. My Pro Mod, which I have gigged with for years, has never let me down.

You will not regret getting the Splawn.

I can't speak to why people on HC badmouth them, but if I had to guess... I'd say it's because they don't have steaming gobs of deathmetal gain, have strong midrange that you really can't dial out, and are tighter than your highschool girlfriend.

Add that to the fact that they don't really "do" quiet and you have an amp that relentlessly exposes your sloppy playing and does it very loudly.

I stopped visiting over there long ago.. I always was felt out of place cuz I couldnt afford to play a Bogner and Suhr and Anderson guitars... I supposed I dont need to say that everything is trendy there and the negative is parroted. Someone read where Splawns are unforgiving and so suddenly everyone is an expert and they are saying they are impossible to play and have NO clean channel. And so forth.. Yeah, it is sort of unforgiving, but its making me a more precise player.

Yep, the Splawn it is! :D

The guy trying to sell me the Bogner XTC fell off the face of the planet and stopped replying to emails. I always had a sneaking suspicion something wasn't quite right about it all along. Anyways, I was blown away by the Splawn so the XTC would've had to have lived upto that for me to have bought it over the Splawn.

So far to get the Splawn I've sold my Orange AD30 head, Jap Charvel Fusion Special and the shop are also taking my Marshall JMP1 and EL84 20/20 Rack gear off me in part exchange.

I've only used the Splawn with my Gibby LP with BKP Mule PAF style pups and it sounded great. I can't wait to get something with a higher output pup and a Floyd Rose plugged into it! :D :friday:

Nice. :) Congrats.

Thanks!

I've never been on the HC Forum, but I've heard around that it's just a fulltime Troll Fest.

Damn, if it shows your bad playing up THAT much, maybe I've bought the wrong amp :D

How does your QR compare to your Pro Mod tonally? The only dealer in the UK had either a QR, a Nitro or a Nitro with KT88s and that's it.

Well mate... today is the day! Can't wait for the pics and review. Regarding them being unforgiving and showing up sloppy playing the MK50 is the same. My playing has improved as a result although I very nearly sold it in the begining because of this and the fact that even dirty it never sounded dirty enough and yet when I heard a recording we did it was brilliant! Don't look back Craig... enjoy the amp... enjoy the exclusivity too! Now, come on.... get ya skates on .. don't you have to be somewhere?

You'll be just fine. :D If I can get good sounds out of one, anyone can. Depending on your last rig, there might be a small learning curve. Within a week you'll be wondering how you ever stood to play through anything else.

The Pro Mods are different now, but compared to MY Pro Mod, the Quick Rod has less saturation, sweeter upper midrange and highs, and is more dynamic and touch-sensitive. The clean channel is obviously much better also. I don't know how much of those changes are due to the EL34s instead of KT88s, the additional clean channel EQ, and the different output transformers. FWIW the actual preamp circuitry is supposedly identical.

Hey Don.

I dunno who's more excited about me getting the amp; Me or you and Stevie! :D

My last rig was a vintage Carlsbro 50-Top clean head and a 1x12 cab. All the amp has is bass, middle, treble and volume controls. The Splawn is practically NASA in comparison! :)
