I finally got my delay! BOSS DD-20

Picked it up at a local shop today. After trading in my Power Block I got it for $160. Sure there are better deals to be had, but it worked out pretty well for me.

Haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but will later on tonight. So I will let everyone know what I think about it, but granted these are pretty common so I doubt I can say much new or have any new discoveries on it.

Still needing the FS-5U, or similar footswitch for the tap tempo.

My board is one step closer to completion!!! This was definitely a Big piece of the puzzle though.

$160 is a great deal for a DD20. I got mine 2 years ago for $180 and that was a great deal then! Enjoy the pedal!

Quick question...

The additional switch can have one of 3 functions... Does anyone know if you can use the FS-6 and be able to implement 2 of the 3?

Cool! Thanks! It doesn't look like a possibility but Tap Tempo is my main concern anyway.

I may be hitting you up for pointers on setting this up. It's the most complicated thing on my board!

It does require a learning curve... shoot me a PM if you need to.

Re: I finally got my delay! BOSS DD-20

Will do!

Do I understand correctly that you can have 2 delays at once? Perhaps set one to Delay almost indefinitely and then move to another patch while the old patch continues to play?

I just love delay, but try not to abuse it. The Edge was a serious inspiration of mine.

Re: I finally got my delay! BOSS DD-20

I don't think it does that last bit you mentioned. It does have a looping function though.

Re: I finally got my delay! BOSS DD-20

The functions of the pedals and the external pedal can be changed around. Even if you don't have an external pedal, you can set it so you have tap tempo. It's described in the manual.

Re: I finally got my delay! BOSS DD-20

All in all I am pretty impressed. I was doing some Edge impersonations in no time. Still need to take some time to sit and and really tweak my individual settings though. I made one patch, and played with the presets. Buncha fun though!

The Twist and Warp functions are a lot of fun too. I don't really find Twist to be that usable in a real world setting, but still it sounds cool!

Anyone care to share some personal settings with me?? :)

Yeah. I just hate having to hold the pedal down to activate the Tap option. I like having it immediately available.

Absolutely you can do this...this is one of the main cool things about this pedal. You can have feedback at 99%, and switch presets, and it will continue echoing, with the new preset on top of it.

And go ahead, abuse it. This is what delays are for.

I loved this way of looping. First time I tried out your approach, I just sat with my guitar and layered sound on sounds for quite a while.
Also, I find the SOS-function neat enough, good when practicing solos e.g..

Re: I finally got my delay! BOSS DD-20

Any users want to share some settings with me? I've tweaked a very basic rhythm setting for me, and I'm loving it.

I'm looking for some advice on some settings maybe a bit more "out there" but still usable.

Still I am Loving this thing. It's a solid piece, and very versatile. I'd recommend it in a heart beat.

Re: I finally got my delay! BOSS DD-20

re: the Tap Tempo thing - on pedal mode 1, I always leave the right switch in tap mode. You have to cycle through patches with the button but if you have time to do that between songs it's way easier than holding it down, tapping the tempo, then holding it down again to go back.

I like using pedal mode 3, where the external is a tap, left is on/off, and right is manual/preset (then pressing both will cycle through presets)

FWIW, you can buy a cheap sustain pedal instead of the FS5U - I don't know if both polarities will work but I've been using a Yamaha sustain pedal for mine. Plus that way the pedal comes with a cable....maybe the music store has an old one in a box for like $5 or something.

^^
Ya know I had wondered about using a sustain pedal. I will try that out today. I can borrow one from my church to test it out, and then pick one up if that is the case.

Re: I finally got my delay! BOSS DD-20

The sustain pedal worked! Woo!

Any users have any tips or settings you wouldn't mind PM'ing me? I've never had a delay this versatile. I know I'm not using it to it's potential. I'd love some killer and trippy Edge style delays.

Re: I finally got my delay! BOSS DD-20

You'll like that one. I had one a year ago. Loved it and hated it. I am just a plug and play type though. Needed something more simple. Good deal for you though.

I'm not using it to its potential either, I tend to play around with it and then store the patch. Set and forget.. So I don't have any concrete settings as per now... I suggest you just play around with it..

I tend to use either smooth or the modulation mode though. So nice..!
