I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

when it's used in conjuction with the other pickups. I never use it alone. Furthermore, I only use a middle pickup if they are all singles for that strat quack. I hate the tone of a middle pickup. Anyone else like this?

Re: I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

I love good middle single coils like the Texas Specials, APS1-2, SSL1-2, the rewinds Zhang did for me. I don't like middle humbuckers but those middle singles, nice bluesy tones right there.

Re: I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

I have no use for strings....they break or go out of tune all the time....
I need to true bypass my 5 ways switch......and block the jacktremolo.
Yeah about that.
It is a funky place to have a pickup....and I like funky stuff.

100% agreement...I never use the middle pickup by itself. Never.

But I use the neck/middle combo on my Strat alot!

Re: I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

Funny... probably use it exclusively 80% of time

Re: I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

I almost never use them together anymore, especially the middle and bridge is a totally unvisitied place for me.
Sometimes I use the neck with the middle, I could be very happy with a 3pole switch.

Re: I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

For me, it depends on the pup. I like my tapped SSL-6 in the middle by itself just fine. But most of all, I like it in series with the SSL-3 bridge - both tapped.

Re: I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

The middle pu is very useful to me, but never as a stand-alone. It's the spice that makes the quack (bridge/middle) and cluck (neck/middle) what it is.

Buddy Guy used the middle by itself a lot, so ErikH is right that it is a bluesy tone. It's just not a bluesy tone for me. I got a Superswitch in my Strat so the #3 position is neck/bridge...

+1.....no use for the middle alone.

Re: I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

I use the middle pickup a lot by itself. But then my guitar is a HSH so it's kinda helpless.

Re: I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

i use my duck alone in the middle of my 540s ... for clean, quacky, clucky lines (esp. hybrid pick/finger pickin') and nice clean chords ... between the 59n and C5b, it is so different from those that it adds to the guitars versatility when i play it alone

I would say that I belong to this club also.

I agree with that. I have a DiMarzio Chopper rail type mini bucker in the middle and use it stand alone often to get a quack sound. Great for Hendrix licks! Versatility is a good thing.

Re: I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

For me, the middle pickup on a Strat is THE Strat sound. I use it for all things Texas blues. If I ever got a strat, I'd probably place a Hotrails or similar in the bridge, but the middle position will keep a strat pickup, though more powerful of course.

Re: I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

I'm another one who never uses it alone, but uses combos a LOT. My fave combo (today, anyway) is bridge & middle in series.

Me too. ;) I have a toggle switch that alows me to simultaneously do two things: tap the middle and bridge, and connect them in series. It creates a psuedo-vintage wide humbucker that balances nicely in volume with the singles. Its a killer tone.

Re: I find I have NO use for a middle pickup except..........

Only use it for quack...I no longer use a middle strat pickup at all on my double humbucker fat strats because the 2-4 "quack" doesn't exist with the middle single combined with the neck and bridge buckers. The middle by itself doesn't usually sound good when the rig is set up to sound its best with the humbuckers either, so I just don't install the middle singles anymore.

i was in this club till recently. in the past maybe year or so ive started to use the middle pup more. i like a very simple setup so the more i can get out of the guitar, the better. low output vintage single coils (antiquitys and aps) set pretty low gets a cool tone that ive been into more and more.

buckers in the middle suck

It doesn't quack if you split the buckers?

True about a rig sounding not so hot with one setting when tweaked for another. One of the better arguments for modelers, IMO.
