I found my perfect plectrum

I started using ultex a while ago. First I had a .73 sharp which IMHO is THE pick for thrash and speed metal but after awhile I found it to floppy for me.

After going from super light to super thick (2mm) and between round and sharp tips I found a comfortable size a 1.4mm Sharp.

Great sound, great hand and dynamic control, lots of clarity, and not to hard not to soft.

I know most people here may not consider their pick that important but it can make a BIG difference in tone and ease of playing. I will only play with picks that have a sharp tip.

Re: I found my perfect plectrum

I have been using the little red Jazz picks for quite awhile now..When I go back to the larger picks,it feels almost a bit arkward..

Re: I found my perfect plectrum

I started using the Dunlop Adamas 2mm graphite picks years ago and have never looked back. When Dunlop discontinued them I bought a lifetimes supply, lol

Re: I found my perfect plectrum

I have the regular shape/size Ultex picks. Whatever material these are made of is just fantastic for my needs cause they seem very solid. I have started using the black Jazz III's, I'm gonna give these a shot next time

Re: I found my perfect plectrum

I have some of those in 2mm - great pick.
I tried a lot but seem to return to the JD Jazztones 207. Less clarity on the wound strings, but extra punch on the unwound in comparison to the Ultex. Can't win them all I guess.
Someone once said that the loudest amplifier is a pick, and I agree it definitely have influence on tone and playability.

Re: I found my perfect plectrum

Jazz III for rockish, Jazz I for jazzy/blues. And some traditional 'thin' picks for the odd strumming on acoustic, no particular brand.

Re: I found my perfect plectrum

I was a Tortex 0.8 mm users for several years and I thought I had settled down to my perfect pick, however a few years ago I tried the Ultex series and it is my prefered kind of pick.
