I fried a 12" Jensen today...

A CH12/70 with a supposedly 50 watts Brit voiced combo....
The speaker is rated at 70 watts and have a peak of 140 watts.
The magnet was hot, and the speaker was still working, sorta!
I took it out and removed the speakercone, man that was one dark brown almost melted piece of......yeah you get the point!
I have tried everything with this combo, nothing sounds good, except the 4x12 cab with G12H speaker.
I think that it will become a head instead, it has as much kick as a 1987 Marshall, combined with a Hiwatt like preamp.
Very clear and glassy, I love it, not as warm as the DR201 Hiwatt, but more in your face Marshall like, no wonder it uses the same powersupply as a 2204.
I think that our british 1x12" combo needs to run by something with EL84's;)

Re: I fried a 12" Jensen today...

Wonder if a Celestion Vintage 30 with the edge surround broken in with the acetone treatment would sound good? Sounds good in my Matchless SC-30 and Chieftan.

Speaking of blown speakers, we used to get those Electro Voice SRO speakers back in Michigan and they had a life time warranty.

But sometimes they'd start to rattle a bit and we'd be unable to demonstrate the problem when we'd return it to the music store and they wouldn't allow us to exchange it.

So one time I took one of those EV's that had a little buzz, set it face down on the floor and attached a lamp cord to it and plugged it into the wall!

Made a loud BBB-ZZZ-RRR-TTTTT!!!! sound for about a second and it jumped right off the floor about an inch! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Then I took it in and exchanged it for a new one!

if all else fails, just plug it straight into the wall...that'll bust it for sure!! :laugh2:

Lol Lew:D
Well I have tried V-30's...but that inherit midspike it has really "shines" with this amp, I have even tried with a 2x12 V-30 cab...no use, still spiky.
Either this one becomes a 2x12 with G12H 30's and a head.
1x12 do not work as clear amps, too small to anything but going bark bark.
Bad dog;)
