OK, so i pulled the trigger on ordering a brobucker for my American Special Mahogany Stratocaster HSS, paid the $165ish, and found out that it was put in as COD as opposed to bank check. Now I have to have it sent to my address, I have to reject it, and it has to go back to SD to be reshipped to my house again. In essence I have to wait 2 weeks longer than planned for my humbucker, and part of me is going haywire hoping that the extra 6,000 miles of travel is not going to cause harm to this HB that i've heard nothing but great things about. What makes matters worse is that I haven't seen a change in tracking info from UPS since august 8, 2008. I'm really starting to worry about whether my pickup is going to get here or if I'm being fed a line. :smash: <--- how i feel right now.

I'm planning to order 2 other pickups for this strat (neck and bridge) and I want a pure vintage sound (think buddy holly). I've heard good things
about the antiquities in spite of their higher prices. My question is, to compliment the brobucker, should i use the california or the texas pickups, and is it possible to have one RW/RP for a hum-cancelling effect in the 2 and 4 positions? Sorry for the vent meets inquiry, but I'm trying to make a better strat and murphy's law is really kicking in.

One other thing, for those who have bought CS SD pickups, is what I'm experiencing (outside the bank check / COD fiasco) a normal occurrence? My confidence in SD is being pushed here, and it's not entirely a good feeling.

Sorry about the shipping situation, but I haven't seen many posts about difficulties with the custom shop. I myself haven't ordered anything from them so I can't comment. If it were me, I'd get the surfers, because they rock socks in a strat. If you get the texas hots, you're going to need to put the middle pickup in the neck and vice versa to get hum cancelling (all the antiquity strat pickups have a rw/rp middle IIRC) I know you're frustrated, but here's the light at the end of the tunnel:

Your strat will sound so good that you run the danger of simultaneously going blind and soiling yourself. I'm exaggerating of course, but seriously - The surfers are my favorite strat pickups, and there is a 4+ page thread in the vault about the brobucker, without one negative review. In les pauls and strats.

You will not be dissapointed.

That sounds like a rare situation, hope it works out bro. I did a forum search on the Brobucker and it sounds like it's going to be worth the wait. I might venture to say it's the forums favorite pickup. Good luck.

BTW if you're going to get custom shop pickups look into the Antiquities too or get a pickup made exactly to your specs.

I just read the 4+ pg thread on it. From what i see it's almost received pickup-deity status. I'm looking also at either the SSL-1, a custom wind, or the antiquity surfers. They're replacing the slot held by stock fender pickups (2 tex-mex and a diamondback HB). Will the shipping back and forth do any damage to the BB?
