I got money for an amp which one though

My transtube is FAAAAR from metally. I can get awsome Buddy Guy clean tones that just rock for "Mary had a little lamb" and "Leave my girl alone" to great vintage od i.e. ZZ top (old school), to Satch's high gain creamy distortion, and everything in between. Maybe the one you got was a fluke? Every Transtube I've played was awsome, and could probably only be improved (w/o extensively modding it) was a speaker change.

The guitarist in one of my bands just picked up a Peavy XXL transtube, although I don't deny that it sounds good, it just doesn't sound anywhere near tube and maybe it's a fluke that you can get yours to sound like that? Cuase, my drummer 3 years ago had the 15 watt and it sounded like butt, I've played the 2X12s with extra speakers and they sounded nothing like tubes and the XXL definately doesn't sound like it's got tubes.

Dude, whatever, ok? I'm not gonna sit here and argue with you on who's Transtube sounds like tube and who's dosnt. Mine does sound like a tube amp, and so does every other one I've played. I've got some great tone to put it up with, and that all that matters. If you wanna keep talking, then pm me, dont highjack this dudes thread. Studio, I wish you all the best of luck in your search of tone, everyone else is still on the journey. LOL

My question:

If you play even a little metal, why the hell are you getting another strat? You need a dual hum guitar to really play metal, or at least an H/S/S setup.

i dont want humbucker just becuz i got a single coils dont mean i cant play metal my jb jr is a smooshed humbucker, and i like to stick with single coil style guitars, its my way and style ...everything shouldnt be played by the book, i also got an ibanez ax120 with emgs 85's and 13-60. strings on it, hmm how much the bogner ecstasy i have to keep ir under 3 grand

Re: I got money for an amp which one though

You can get a used Ecstacy for about $2400. If I'm not mistaken they have a lifetime transferable warranty (I know the Soldano SLO does) so buying used shouldn't be a concern. A new Ecstacy goes for about $3500.

u guys forget the pedals and pickups that are involved

i do believe some ss amps can do a descent tube emulation but i havent heard the XXL unfortunatly

i dont recall however the XXL series ever having a 15 watt version

anywho, have u played one urself? For$600 buck id expect better from the Peavey an amp that has gotten better ratings than the Marshall MG series which i think does an ok descent tube emulation the MG100

the 15 watter wasn't an XXL it was just a Peavey Transtube (obligatory numerical nonesense) it didn't sound good at all. And yeah, I've played through the 15 watter, the 150watt 2X12 transtube with marshall extension speakers (twice at gigs) and the XXL. None of them sound tube, but they can sound good (except the 15 watter, that never sounded good)

But, I'd actually like an update on Studio's amp, which one did he go with? I played through a Bogner Ecstasy not too long ago... to tell you the truth... it made me need to change my underpants... it was amazing. I'm really curious as to what he went with.

How many 15 watt amps do you know that actually sound really good?

The Vox AC15.... :laugh2: actually... I have to defend my old Squier Champ15b, but... that thing was made in the early 80's. I think that the Vox Cambridge 15 sounded pretty good, too. Fender Champs sound pretty decent, IMO. nothing like an AC15, but... hey, for 200 bucks...

hey guys im back in a band and im going for an amp, i play swedish metal and classic rock stuff, i need one though with badass gain and sweet warm clean tube sound, this will be a halfstack, i also shred alot

In a later post you mention the Rivera. Although I don't have hands-on experience with it, I have been told the Rivera Knucklehead 55R is very good. It can (possibly) give you the gain you need since it's got the power of a third channel. There's a dealer in Austin with a KHR55 head at $1995, and the cabinet at $895 which puts the price below the $3000 ceiling at which you're aiming.

Have you considered Roccaforte amplifiers? I've read their tone described as Marshall's on steroids. They're affordable as well, but lack a dealership in Texas.

The bottom line is that with a budget of $3000, you'd have to heed the adage of playing an amplifier for yourself. After all, when you're spending that kind of cash it ought to be for something you truly want rather than what guys on the SD forum say is good.
