I will say that there are GREAT musicians now and yet the worst music is being made.

If you understand the buisness than you know why.

When they mixed business and art it worked out OK. You had to at leat sell some stuff.

Now it's all about making money and no art at all.

Enter, American Idol.........they needed to find some people who can sing and make them some money. They made it too hard to get a recording contract.

That's why Prince changed his name, to screw Sony. Sony did a number on a lot of artists.

The music business is a mess because the lawyers and investors took over.

We don't have anymore John Hammond's and Ahmet Eertegun's.

I stumbled on two great Dimarzios by accident when I needed some pickups for a Fender Aerodyne Tele. I didn't need a Tele tone so I decided to make the guitar more of a humbucking monster. I ended up with the Tone Zone T and the DLX Plus. Both sound great but the DLX Plus is really nice. I've actually use them in two Teles now because it's such a great combo.

These are the only Dimarzio pickups I have used in 20 years.

Today I have listened through all the pickup clips that I have on my hard drive and through all the pickup samples on DiMarzio web site, and I have to say that DiMarzio Virtual Vintage technology makes wonders. Virtual PAFs with Alnico2 magnets are my favorite pickups among all the pickups I've tried, and this list includes a lot of some really good pickups: Gibson Burstbuckers, 57Classics, 496R, 500T, Dimarzio AirNorton, Tone Zone, Seymour Duncan Invader, Hot Rails, JB, EMG 81, 85 and 89s and several others. The Shadow EQ-5 pickup is my second favorite, but it's active. Among the pickups that I didn't try myself but I've heard some clips and can judge about their sound, my favorites are SD Antiquities.

I also really liked the tone of the sound clips of Vitrual Hot T/VirtualT neck Tele pickups on the Dimarzio website. If I ever buy myself a Tele, I swear I will put these pickups in!

Dimarzio is a very controversial pickup manufacturer that at one hand had several questionable business practices like registering the PAF name and the double cream bobbins both of which certainly were pioneered by Gibson and not Dimarzio, and on the other hand they have invented double resonance technology, Airbucker technology and Virtual Vintage technology that really push the boundaries of pickup design to a new level.

IMHO, they have a problem that the public opinion on their pickups is largely dominated by the misconception that they only produce pickups for shredders. That's basically because they don't promote well the pickups that have a soulful PAF vibe, like my favorite Virtual PAFs. And also because they ignore such an important feature as Alnico2 magnets in their humbuckers.The reasons why they don't use Alnico2s are largely invented by them. I've never heard about Alnico2 magnets losing their magnetism in several years, and in case they do lose their strength in, let's say, 20 years, I think I can handle that. In my experience, weaker magnets do sound better

Also, recently they've started using A2 magnets in their single coils with good results, so it's just a question of time when they realize that by ignoring Alnico2 humbuckers they are just losing money. And meanwhile VPAFs with A2 magnets will be my secret weapon!

Well, I've used more Dimarzios than Duncans, and sounds aside they certainly have a different image. My kramer has a PATB-2 in the bridge and a Breed in the neck. The Breed is great for clean and the PATB-2 is great for dirty IN THAT GUITAR.

I've also got a Super Distortion in my Lesocaster, and had a Megadrive in a floyded bitzer. Duncan or Dimarzio, they're all great pickups and you won't go far wrong with either, but you have to pick the one for the guitar.

I'll make this even more interesting and know I'm going to get flamed.

Most music after the mid 70's sucks. Including punk, new wave, metal of almost all kind, techno dance junk, did I miss anything. Although the Police were a huge cut above everybody else.

I would really rather listen to Louis Armstrong or Hank Williams than to the stuff after 1980.

I hate Bebop too, much rather listen Benny Goodman and other swing styles.

I saw a cartoon movie robots and one of them said it's a mixture of Jazz and Funk, they call it Junk.

By the way if y'all want to learn how to vibrato the right way, listen to Armstrong he had the best ever on a trumpet yet.....LOL.

Well geesh lol, it sounds like you should stick to swing and big band, surf might be a bit too heavy for you. Them beatles are the devil I tells ya!

With a mindset like that, dimarzio isn't going to work for you.

Seriously though, until the very late 70's there wasn't much technical guitar playing. Guitar evolved into a much bigger thing durring the 80s which spawned generations of amazing guitarist. Sure I agree that the majority of music made in the last 20 years is mostly only listenable, but you can't throw away all of the 80s metal. After all that's pretty much where all our virtuosoist are coming from. (Which IMO is where the majority of the best music is coming from.)

And if you want to learn to vibrato the right way, listen to Yngwie J Malmsteen.
