It sounds horrid and i cant get rid of the buzzing and i know it is the pick up.. Im going to get rid of it for a dimarzio super distortion as soon as i can... God I cant believe how crappy it is, sounds so dull.

man i find it hard to believe that the JB is working right then?
i dont play ibanez but have a guitar similar and the JB rocks in it.
how close to the strings is the JB in yer axe?
try tappin each coil while it is plugged in to make sure it is in full buckin mode?

Is their any other seymour duncan that would sound decent in an ibanez

Are you about 15 years old and been playing less than 2 years? :) If so that might be the problem. :)

you know lew i was thinking the same thing
:laugh2:

Re: I hate the Jb in my Ibanez

Ha close im 16 but i have been playing for awhile i just suck with mechanics. I pick up is level with my neck stock pick up.. This dude that played with Elvin Bishop installed it, i think he knows what he is doing. The buzz goes away depending on which direction i stand and how far from electrical equipment... He used his own schematic. But i know it is now wired as a single coil and it is grounded properly

Re: I hate the Jb in my Ibanez

about the buzz it isnt a guitar buzzy natural noise.. it is the buzz you get when you tap your cable on a metal bar or one of your strings

the JB is supposed to be wired in series for full humbucking.
you are now saying it is wired for single coil operation? correct?

that "buzz" is due to something not being grounded properly in the wiring or a BAD GUITAR CHORD .

Re: I hate the Jb in my Ibanez

Your JB is wired as a single coil??? Really??? Wire it as a humbucker my man! That's the problem. No wonder it buzzes...all single coils do! It really sounds to me like your guitar is not wired properly and that you have not yet experienced the JB as it is meant to be experienced. Lew

AMEN!

Re: I hate the Jb in my Ibanez

the buzz is coming from:
really crappy cables
television, monitors, fans
ammount of distortion,
cold solders, blown potentiometers

reading your post, there might be a couple of these. worst case scenario:
you were at the monitor, playing on your amp, with the distortion effect turned on, the tech overheated the pots and did a couple of cold solders, relied on a dimarzio schematic which in turn he wired the pup in paralel or forgot to wire the ground (bare) wire and your pup is way too low.

remedy, take it to a skilled tech (no, not guitar center). if you tell us where you're from, maybe some people can recomend a good guitar tech. as you said you're not good at soldering and setting things up, you should get it to a shop

take a listen to a couple of my soundclips to see what the JB is really capable of (my music in my sig)

Re: I hate the Jb in my Ibanez

It is not wired as a single coil i must of made a mistake with my message... But i live in Chico CA. So what schematic sould i use outta the schematics on the site... all i know is i have 1 tone 1volume and i 5 way conductor switch? Thanks for the help guys i really appreciate it...

this is yer axe?

go here http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/models.asp?t=e
it has all ibanez RG wiring, all you have to do is make sure to use the JB's black wire to hot and white/red go together and get taped back or if you have a switch that allows for coil taps it goes to the lug on the switch, and the green and bare go to the top of the pot(ground)
:burnout:

Re: I hate the Jb in my Ibanez

Hey thanks to everyone with the help i got everything sorted out and it sounds great.. When i get the cash im gonna put a 59 in the neck... sorry for doubting the almighty JB. It is great... thanks again.

Re: I hate the Jb in my Ibanez

another one converted to the godlyness that is the JB

now, put the pup as close to the strings as you can when you fret the last fret. put it a tad lower so when you do a death dive the strings dont get caught up in the thing and you got an amazing pickup

Re: I hate the Jb in my Ibanez

do what davey said if you haven't yet bring the pickup as close as you can to the strings. The closer the better the JB will sound. If it's an RG you'll probably want to change out the pots to 250k. I wasn't a fan of my JB with the 500k pots that my Rg came with. I changed out all of the electronics because they are pretty much junk.

Good luck

Cool! I just put a JB and Jazz in a Les Paul Studio last night and it sounds tremendous...as usual. Great single coil tones too.

What a pain working on that LP Studio though... :smack:
