I have a confession to make...

I have an huge PAS (Pickup Aquisition Syndrome) problem...

I have a large shoebox that holds all the aftermarket pickups I have that aren't in one of my 11 currently functioning electric guitars.

I have the following:

3 Gibson Dirty Fingers
1 DiMarzio PAF
1 DiMarzio Super Distortion
1 SD Screamin' Deamon (Wound my MJ)
1 SD Custom (factory converted to C5 by MJ)
2 SD Full Shred (Wound by MJ)
1 Hybrid that is 1/2 SD '59 and 1/2 DiMarzio PAF w/ Alnico 8 Magnet
1 Hybrid that is 1/2 Dirty Fingers and 1/2 unknown
2 SD LiveWire Classic Singles
1 SD Livewire Metal Humbucker
3 ESP LH-100
2 OLP Stock from an Axis Copy
2 Ibanez SB1
1 Bartolini Single Coil

That's 21 Pickups that aren't doing anything...

And that doesn't count the 19 stock pickups that have been removed from my guitars, or the 25 pickups that are in my guitars... that makes 65 pickups. :smack:

And I have another Metal LiveWire coming...

And I ordered a BroBucker...

Do I need help?

Re: I have a confession to make...

Ur crazy dude.

You could at least sell some of them, or give them away.

Re: I have a confession to make...

I've only ever sold 5 pickups in my 13 years as a player...

and I forgot, I have 2 sets of Duncan Designeds... I've loaned a few of those out... so that makes 69 pickups...

And I'm proud to say that there is not a single JB in my collection...

Re: I have a confession to make...

Hmmm... are you happy with your amp? If not, why not sell off a bunch of pickups and get one you are happy with?

Re: I have a confession to make...

I'm happy with my amp to the point that I can't find anything that will REPLACE it. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment, so a stack is out of the question and the AX2 that I have is by far the best modeler I have played with. I've spent a lot of time with the GT08, the ToneLab and the newer Line6 Stuff. The only thing I could see working for me would be a Marshall JMP-1 and an FX processor like a G-Force/Major or disabling the amp side of the GT-8 or even the old GX-700...

I've de-railed my own topic...

Thanks for the concern Jeff... :)

Re: I have a confession to make...

If you're spending more time obsessing about pickups than actually playing your guitar and more importantly: ***Enjoying It*** then I would say yes. I think all of us gear junkies and GAS heads are guilty of that to a certain extent.

I've had a few humbling experiences where I've seen guitar players playing the **** out of a crap guitar with crap pickups through crap amps but getting a great tone. It kinda puts things into perspective.

Or maybe you just like to collect them like some people collect baseball cards. Which is not a big deal, unless you're not paying your rent because of it.

That about sums it up... my goal is to eventually have one of every model made by Duncan and DiMarzio

Some have been gathered for projects that are not finished but others I have so that I have them. Like the Dirty Fingers, they sound good for certain things, so If I'm recording something that needs that tone, I install one in the appropriate guitar... and the Bridge pup out of an Ibanez SZ because you can't just buy those usually...

I also have an Ibanez Roadstar II that is routed for 3 humbuckers. I has a Pickguard on it with only 1 in it, so I want to cut additional pickguards with different configs for recording purposes...

Re: I have a confession to make...

I've been playing less than a year and I have spare:
Custom 5
Bareknuckle Miracle Man
2 Jackson single coils
A Jackson J50BC

Obviously not as much as you but I'm on the right track no? :D

Re: I have a confession to make...

You need help in getting rid of those pups. I can help you ;)

Re: I have a confession to make...

To me, that stuff is like money in the bank. You could sell or trade them, but if you ever get into a financial pinch, it's easy to liquidate quickly and much less painful than selling guitars or amps.

Re: I have a confession to make...

Have any double creams you want to sell. I'd like a 59' bridge or something similar.

Re: I have a confession to make...

If that 59/DPAF hybrid is black/black, I'd be happy to take it off your hands. I'll trade for a PGb if you want.

It's actually Zebra and double screw poles. and It's going in the neck of my ElDegas Les Paul Copy when I get a new neck for it... I'll be using the double cream PAF in the bridge. And I didn't care for the PGb I had...

Since you're close tho, I'll lend you a pup or two if you want to try them out.
