I have become a PRS convert!

For many years I have looked at the guitars but never really connected with one and thought that they were way overpriced. In November I bought one for an unreal price in a Pawn Shop purely to flip and make some $$ on it. However when I took it out to a band practice after I had cleaned and set it up it floored me and now I know what the fuss is all about. It's not the best playing guitar I own and by far not the most attractive guitar I own but has now become the only guitar I am playing on stage.
The reason is the way this guitar responds in a real world band setting and the number of tones I can get without swapping guitars. Both aspects are simply amazing.
I own a stock 2007 Custom 24 with the HFS/VB pickups and the 5 way rotary switch.
With just my volume control and the 5 way using a hot high gain expressive tube amp and almost no effects the number of tones I can cover is astounding.
Screaming metal, fluid solos, strat like bell tones, bluesy smooth sweet tones I can pull them all with this guitar using the 5 way the guitar volume and touch and never touching my amp or my effects.
Nothing else I have ever owned would let me do this NOTHING!!
Bottom line if you want the ultimate stage guitar to cover a boatload of different tones on the fly check a real Custom 24 out and spend a little time seeing what these guitars will really do.
Here are clips of 2 songs from our last Church service on Sunday. I am running the custom 24 through a Jet City JCA22H head set up hot with the gains on both sides at around 6 or so. The only effects are a Dan Echo Delay a Boss chorus which are run through the loop on the head and a Wah set between the guitar and the amp and that's it!

Re: I have become a PRS convert!

Ya know, I like PRS guitars. There's no denying they are top shelf stuff. I do have a huge problem with Paul Smith though. When he discontinued left handed guitars back in the mid 2000's, he made the comment that he would no longer cater to fickle left handed guitarist, and if we didn't like what he put out, then we'd just have to deal with it. I have a problem with a company that would alienate any of their customers like that. In some senses, it's almost borderline racism.

I will give him some credit and a little bit of reprieve. He did open the private stock program to lefty's. At an exorbitant price I might add. He's also been offering up limited production lefty's runs that can be ordered with any options of a righty. This year it was Custom 24's and the base price was $3500 IIRC. It's better than nothing, but still a bit steep. Every other freaking company out there has 1 or 2 models from both of their American and Import lines. There is absolutely no reason PRS can't. Gibson by themselves have proven there is a market for leftys and until PRS gets their crap together, I refuse to give them any money.

Can understand the frustration. I have never met Smith and don't care about him as a person. The guitar I have works for ME and works better than anything else I have ever owned. I bought it used for way below the market price and if I buy another one will likely do the same thing.

If I find some thing that works better for me I will buy it and play it till then I am playing my PRS!
