I have finally found my pick!! What about you?

Re: I have finally found my pick!! What about you?

HERCO - Flex 75s. Just like Jimmy Page. I'll use Dunlop nylon ones in a pinch but Flex 75s are harder and more sparkly. You know how on Led Zep live stuff it sometimes sounds like his hands aren't doing what he wants them to do? I sound like that too - AND I use the same kind of pick!

Dunlop Tortex Blue (I think that's something like .88mm?)

Just the right stiffness/flexibility for me...

Re: I have finally found my pick!! What about you?

Whatever suits my fancy at the time. Typically it's between Dunlop Tortex 1.14 mm (the blue one) and Dunlop Gator Grip 1.14 mm (also blue). The Tortexes are indestructible, but the Gator yield a heavier tone.

Re: I have finally found my pick!! What about you?

I've been using the Dunlop Tortex sharp (1.35mm) for the last 3 years.
It's nice and stiff with that mean sound. :fing2:

Re: I have finally found my pick!! What about you?

Dunlop "Big Stubby" 2.0mm and 3.0mm, Dunlop Gator Grip 2.0mm.

I didn't think picks made a big differance, but when I started using thicker ones it felt like I had a better string attack, better grip on the pick, and just a generally better handle on the chords/string skipping. Maybe it's that I've been practicing more, but finding the right pick size really helped.

Re: I have finally found my pick!! What about you?

i use the green tortex or the ultex, the ultex have a little more attack and they wear great!!

Re: I have finally found my pick!! What about you?

Another vote for the Dunlop Tortex. I use the jazz sized Orange for more attack-oriented jamming and the full-size orange for rhythm/strumming style on 6-string. I use the thin ones (can't remember the color, and I am not home right now) for my 12-string to get more brilliance.

I used to like the Fender Cali-Customs, but they dont have the endurance of the Tortex. I have a pickholder on my boom-micstand and I would go through ALL 12 picks in one set when I was using Fender. Now that I have Tortex, the only time I change is when I drop the pick or NAIL and awe-inspring solo that demands the pick to be thrown in the audience. Of course, no one starts a riot to grab it. Heck, if it was worth the trouble, I could retrieve it after the gig!! LOL!!!

Re: I have finally found my pick!! What about you?

I've used plenty of diffrent of diffrent picks before but it seems i always come back to playing the reguilar tortoise shell heavy fender picks
