Cool stuff, post up lots of pics when you get it.

If you do a google search, there's a couple websites devoted to modding that simple amp. Most of them are just basic tweaks, and you can lower the hum of the amp, and voice it nicer. It might be worth looking into, just so you can turn it into an amp for fiddling with.

Here's a thread a couple of weeks ago I posted with clips.

Gonna probably do some more today with a tube change. Got an 80's Russian Military EL84 in it now, that's better than the JJ's I think.

Wow, I like the dirty and crunch tones through the Greenbacks. Is that just volume produced distortion - no pedal? So this is an unmodded head with just a tube swap?

SoCalSteve, yep natural amp distortion. No pedals. Just tube swapped. I ran out of time yesterday in the studio, I was gonna do more clips with the 80's Russian Military EL84, which I'm liking even more. More 3D type of tone, not quite as dark as the JJ's.

Stunning little amps. If you buy the head, the noise problems are solved. It's the reason that the heads cost as much as the combos do apparently... They wired in a couple of caps and a resistor and tada! No hum or hiss at high gain. The amp does sound a little fizzy from what I hear at high gain and you can mod it to sound better if you choose. Those sites along with some mods supplied by Zaphod Phil on the 18 watt board should make it sing nicely.

Re: I just bought one of those epiphone valve junior heads

I got the head a few weeks ago. I just put in hte Groove Tubes 12AX7-M Mullard reissue and the amp completely changed tonally. It's way more open now and the distortion is nice and rough. I am currently putting it through an Earcandy Buzzbomb with a V30 & G12H30, but I've got an Earcandy 112 on the way that I'm going to put another G12H30 in and see how that sounds. I tried an EH and JJ preamp tube and this one smokes them all. I'll replace that power tube as well as soon as I hear what some more people have to say about tubes and this amp. It takes to pedals really well too.

they look pretty nifty.

Re: I just bought one of those epiphone valve junior heads

Holy Jeez, only $99?

I can't believe that thing will actually sound good! A good transformer alone costs way more than $99... Let alone the rest.

Need to try this one out! It looks pretty cool.

Re: I just bought one of those epiphone valve junior heads

This thing is going to be my new amp in a few weeks :D

Of course, I'll have to wait to have money for the cab, but having the amp there in front of me will motivate me to get a job and buy the cab :fingersx:

Re: I just bought one of those epiphone valve junior heads

I was looking at one of these things any chance we could get some clips?

Re: I just bought one of those epiphone valve junior heads

I posted about it a couple weeks here I think. Great amp for $99.

Re: I just bought one of those epiphone valve junior heads

You can't beat the price! One knob. I'd love to try it out. Probably a good one to play at full blast.

It reminds me of the tube PAs I use: very simple.

Re: I just bought one of those epiphone valve junior heads

I've been looking into these little guys for a week or so now. I wonder how well it could do high gain, metal tones?

Re: I just bought one of those epiphone valve junior heads

My friend's about to buy one -- does anybody know how an Electro-Harmonix Tube Zipper or Hot Tubes would sound with it? He's thinkin a couple tubes in the pedal, a tube in the amp, have a bigger more powerful set up right?

any first-hand experience yet? :D haha
