Holy Jeez, only $99?

I can't believe that thing will actually sound good! A good transformer alone costs way more than $99... Let alone the rest.

Need to try this one out! It looks pretty cool.

But it's only 5W, so the transformer is also cheaper...

Is it cathode biased?

I've been looking into these little guys for a week or so now. I wonder how well it could do high gain, metal tones?

Tube amps like this usually take pedals great. You could stick a FAB metal or a Brown Sound in a Box in front of it and be in metal heaven I'm sure. Alone, it appears to have a nice 70s grit to it.

Re: I just bought one of those epiphone valve junior heads

I had a Valve Jr. for a month. I bought it thinking it would be cool for home practice. NOT! Tone was good (not great, the Crate V58 is awesome!), but with only one knob, you had do dial it WAY too loud for home practice. This little thing was loud as hell.

And it was also humming like an army of mosquitos, even when the knob was turned completely down.

I read somewhere that changing the positon of one of the transformer takes care of most of the hum.

If you can really push it hard enough, you'll probably like it a lot. Also, on the valve Jr. combo, the 8" speaker was weak, you'll have the chance to use the head with your speakers of choice.

I've had mine for about two weeks now, love it! A pleasant surprise was when I turned it up all the way, used my attenuator to lower the output to the speakers, and put a tube screamer and duncan pickup booster in front to push the preamp, I got some real nice hard rock tones.

I want one, I'll probably get it in a week if I can afford it. It'd strictly be for modding experience though.

Problems: only the combo is available here. It costs 100Pouds and is the old version without enough filtering... But a quick study of the schematics should reveal what's wrong.

Re: I just bought one of those epiphone valve junior heads

I called Guitar Center, asked for the head, they said they had it, I drove all the way down there, and he's got the combo waiting for me. Drats. Of course he tries to talk me into the combo, and then a solid state head. Part of me was glad since I really don't need another amp.

So, I ordered a Behringer Vintage Tube Overdrive off ebay instead. I've been wanting a tube screamer clone anyway.

Something was going to get bought today dammit.
