I just came back from the guitar shop...

And I tried an Epiphone Les Paul just to get the feel of the mighty Les Paul, and to tell you he truth-I was expecting more out of a Les Paul, not that it wasn't good, just that it wasn't amazing like everybody says it to be. Anyways-I tried a couple Ibanez's I kind of liked them (btw they were high end models), I also tried an Ibanez with MG actives but it made a HUGE hissing sound and that kind of turned me off (even though I think it was the battery). So anyways I was trying to say- that I finally got to a beautiful transparent blue Jackson RR guitar. Not only did it look beautiful- it also sounded bautiful with Duncans. I played some Heavy Metal songs, and some shred on it. It was perfect for heavy metal-a gift from Randy Himself. So the only thing I would change would be maybe the pickups. They sound good as they are but I think they would sound even better if I would put lets say Duncan JB TB4's ? Should I? Will they be good for Heavy Metal/Shred? The only problem with the Guitar is that you can't sit down without a strap, you need to stand up most of the time which I'm not use to doing. (I played it sitting down without using a strap so it was uncomfortable). Oh ya and the Model is the Jackson RR10-and its only $550ish in USA- and in Israel it costs 750USD. So I'm probably going to buy it in USA and then it will leave me either 750 or 950 USD for an AMP! So which amp do you think I should get? Give me an AMP thats 750$ and give me an Amp thats 950$. I need something that will give me a great heavy metal/shred/little classic/hard rock tone. And also-do you thnk that buying an RR10 is a good thing for me? Will it really the music that I play? And what should I do- buy the RR10 and a great amp or buy the Gibson SG Standard and a middle class amp? THe store dealer says that I shouldn't buy a Gibson-instead I should buy the RR, so I'm asking you guys. And what would suit me more-the RR10 or the Gibson SG STandard? Or hsould I buy the RR5 and get a mid range amp? And what makes the RR5 better then the RR10 (except for the pickups). And how much would Seymour Duncan JB TB4's cost? How much would one cost and how much would a set cost? Sorry for all those questions but please try to answer as many as you can. Thanks!

Re: I just came back from the guitar shop...

Yeah, that guitar sounds perfect for you! I would wait until you have an amp and have lived with it for a while before deciding you want to change anything.

As for amps, I would look into a VHT, Marshall, Carvin, or Rivera combo amp.

Re: I just came back from the guitar shop...

Any specific model names? So you think that I should get the RR10 instead of the RR5 and the SG, and after awhile if the sound isn't good ebough for me then I should switch to the JB TB4's? And is it really a hassle to change the strings on the RR10? Lol yesterday it tok me 4 hours to change the strings on my strat for my first time, the low E was soooo annoying! Well atleast the RR10 has locking tuners! I was looking at Peavey for Amps or maybe a Marshall for 750-950USD. I want a tube amp however in the store (my store advertises Fender and Ibanez) near me they carry Fender amps. I looked at the Fender Princeton 65DSP or whatever they all it, and it sounded great. Plus I heard that Fender has great clean channels and great reverb right? Even though I use the Distorted channel 90 percent of the time, so I might get the BOSS MT2 Metal Zone for Distortion. How is the Fender Princeton Distortion and should I get a higher level tube amp with my 750 even though I think the Fender sounds great?

Re: I just came back from the guitar shop...

Try and see if you can get some good tones out of the Fender through the pedal. I played a Marshall DSL50 at a gig once. Sounded really sweet. Good heavy sound and good cleans all from the amp.

I would go for the RR-5 (BTW, it was an RX-10, ther isn´t an RR-10 and never was;)).

The main difference is the neck-thru-body construction. this increases playability on the upper frets (particularly on V-s and explorers that have most of the frets clear of the body), and adds quite a bit of fatness, many also claim that it adds sustain. The trade off is a slightly less articulate response and a bit smoother high end.

The Mid-range amp should be more than enough for most players, cripes most GIGGING musicians can´t honestly say they NEED a half-stack, or even a 50 watt 2x12 combo for that matter. So a nice old single channel JCM 800 combo and a good landmine like a DS-1, Tubescreamer or simalar would be fine for "the other end" IMO, and financially "within spec" as well. And a neck-thru Jackson through a JCM 800 just ROCKS

FWIW

Re: I just came back from the guitar shop...

it shouldnt be much over 600$ i think.. it's somewhere there around these parts (central europe)

i played the dx10d (it's in the same series as the rr10 i believe)
the neck is just simply amazing. jackson makes one of the most comfortable necks you can get imo. the pups can be changed and the tb4 will suit you. but it's alder so i'd rather put in a custom. you wont go wrong with it

i just read your 2nd post. the princeton has a great distortion. very rock like. if you use a pedal like the tubescreamer just to drive it a little harder it does heavy metal very well. but it's an all trans amp, try to find a roc-pro (750 i think or the 1000) they have a tube preamp and therefore a much better distortion. you'd have to get an used one as tey dont make em anymore. but the fender aps are very good in all... you can get fed up with the clean sound though

Re: I just came back from the guitar shop...

i'll be on later.. got to do some things first

Re: I just came back from the guitar shop...

Yeah but 400/500 more for a neckthru version? I don't know..I don't really think its worth it, plus the RX10 or w.e its called has a JT580 LP Double Locking 2-Point tromolo. Just one question- is that tromolo a floating one or a regular and how does it compare to a Floyd? Oh ya and if I get the RR5 I can't get something near the JCM800 as that will be too much money, so I'm kind of sticking to the RX10 that my shop carries, and am getting maybe the DSL, can someone link me to the page that has the DSL and the price please? Thanks.

Re: I just came back from the guitar shop...

Since when does isreal use US dollars as its currency? And if you buy something new from The USA you will ahve to pay extra taxes (add on whatever VAT rates are where you live), £560 is $1,021 at the moment..If it took you 4 hours to string up a strat then licensed floyd rose (cheaper and in a lot of cases harder to set up and tune) might be rather difficult to re-string..

Adopting the Classical playing style would allow you to play a V type guitar while sitting and not using a strap..

Re: I just came back from the guitar shop...

I just rather use USD and then convert it to shekalim and anyone else?

Re: I just came back from the guitar shop...

does Israel even run on the same current as the USA?

I wouldnt buy an amp abroad - shipping will be too expensive (heavy package) and you'd have to make sure about the current.

And £560 is 4,652.91 Israeli New Sheke ..

Go to http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic and you can find out this yourself

Re: I just came back from the guitar shop...

Id Definitly recommend the DSL 50, great amp and quiet versatile aswell..Keep in mind you would need a cab also..

Re: I just came back from the guitar shop...

So how much would a DSL40/50 and a Jackson RX10 cost together in USD?
