i just got an amazing amp offer!

A dude at work hasnt been in a band for a while and is looking to get rid of his Peavy Triple XXX 120 head and his Marshall slant cab.

holy crap what a deal! i can have the head and cab for 500 bucks! is that insane or what? i'm looking to sell my valve jr head and cab and 140 watt crate so i can get this gear faster.

i'm digging the 120 watt headroom and i can lower the power to as low as 25 watts so i can crank it without dying. i'm pretty excited to say the least.

Any comments about this particular amp model? i trust this guy completely and he'll let me jam on it whenever i want while i decide.

XXX + Marshall cab(even if it's a cheapo MG cab) for 500$ is a killer price. Jump on it i'd say

The XXX is my opinion has gain over the top available and a rather dry distortion sound. Quite tight and useable but not geat cleans

my playing style is a mix of progressive, metal, classical, and classic rock. i'm confident enough about shaping an amp's tone to my liking, and would deffinitely appreciate having more gain (as the valve jr gets to 70's metal levels at best).

my only concern is that i dont have any experience with class A/B amps. what should i know about a/b compared to a? i'm aware of the difference in how the power is distributed to the tubes, but how will these differences affect my use of the amp? will cranking it yeild significantly different results?

Yup. The AB amp will hit your ears harder, by far. For the same $ you can check out a 30 watt Class a combo for the "squash" tone if you want it. The headroom of the XXX will make pedals sound different too, but you'll be heard!!

yeah i'm the only prospective buyer, as he doesnt bother even trying to sell it.

as soon as i sell my valvr jr head and cab and my 140 watt crate i'll be all over it
