I just realized something big

Re: I just realized something big

I realized that having too many preferences is self-defeating when it comes to guitars and amps.

I realized that most electric guitars sound basically the same with only minor and extremely subtle differences from one to the next. The same is true for amps.

I realized all the gear on Earth won't make up for lack of chops or weak songs.

I realized there's no 'good' or 'better' or 'best'...just 'different.'

Finding the right fit when it comes to guitars is a huge discovery. Once I found my style, the rest came into place. I realized I was settling for a while and it was getting in the way of my writing.

The best discovery I came across is finding what sounds good and (get this)... STOP SEARCHING! Yes, there will always be threads about how much better x or y is than the next, but if you have a connection and a love with what you've got, you're crazy for trying to search for better. I'm the happiest I've ever been. No more thinking of adding one of each to the stable, I've just found happiness in a few select tones and I've gotten a lot more accomplished musically because of it. When you look at a lot of well known musicians, they often have a few pieces of signature gear for their own respective tone or tones and leave the rest of the spectrum alone.

That's pretty much true and I'm starting to go into that mindset. At least that's what I try to think when I get bit with GAS. Lately, I've been wanting a half stack so bad. I know I could trade/sell my orange for a nice head then buy a cab and be ready to rock, but that's just me thinking.

I'm not a huge tone snob, at least with guitars, otherwise all of them would be modded. I now just pick ones that I like the feel of. Unless it's a lifeless piece of wood, you can change a guitar's tone with pup swaps to suit your needs, but a guitar that has a bad neck profile or uncomfortable scale length, is useless.

yeah if you can't jive with the feel it's a fruitless endeavor. That's why you'll never see me holding a PRS or Ibanez or 80% of ESP's...shredder necks are teh blech.

i still want a 'shredder style' guitar tho just to have that tool in my proverbial shed.

Great post!
Couldn't agree more.
