The finishes look crappy on those two guitars.
Personally, I wouldn't spend that kind of dough on one.

Re: i know Edwards lp's are nice but...?

Hoss, I have seen a few of those going for high prices; that might either mean someone is paying a lot for them or that there are Edwards models that are higher-end than others. Some of the new MIJ Tokai go for huge bucks, too, but it's all about finding a bargain and trying to figure out what the different price points are. I think you also have to factor in what you are getting and compare what the comparable Gibby would go for. Not that you want to overpay, but if the comparable Gibby is 1800 then you know you could be getting a deal. Edwards might be the lawsuit 'flavor of the month,' too, who knows.

There's a guy on the LPF selling a really nice looking Orville with pickup upgrades if you are looking for a good deal on a nice LP.

Re: i know Edwards lp's are nice but...?

brand new edwards les paul replica cost about usd$700 here in singapore. throw in a hard case plus shipping to usa will probably cost about $800 to $850.

Damn, me too, I'm gassing for a 3 Pup Black Beauty (Does anyone know if they actually make them?, I've not seen any).

They are a bit steep though, most of the ones I have seen were $500-$800.

Re: i know Edwards lp's are nice but...?

just a service for forum bros. if anybody is interested in any edwards guitars, pm me. i may be able to get it much cheaper and have them shipped to you.

Re: i know Edwards lp's are nice but...?

i'm not buying anything anytime soon...there are just a few models of guitars that i browse for in e-bay once in awhile...just in case some kind of crazy deal comes along that i can sell plasma and sperm for...lol

i just thought these were a little high and wondered what you guys thought...?!

i mean we're getting close to used gibby prices with those...!?

Ok... I have to add a word here... being the proud owner of an Edwards ! :D

1200$ is quite high for a replica that is relatively "young" (no "mojo" yet, unlike Tokai and such). BUT, come back to me when you'll find a Gibson with 1-piece body, highly flamed maple top, seymour duncan pickups, deluxe Gotoh tuners and Gotoh hardware, and, last but not least, long neck tenon. In terms of tone, it is equivalent or better than the best standard production LPs.

And speaking of resale value... they are going up and up! I paid mine 390$ + 100$ shipping.. :fing25: I can *easily* sell it back for 600$ min + shipping. But dont dream, its not for sale  :outahere:

Id be very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very stupid to sell it...

And I dont need anymore the Gibson brandname on headstock to cherrish a guitar.

Re: i know Edwards lp's are nice but...?

i agree about the name on the headstock and even where it is made...if it's a good guitar...it's a good guitar...simple as that...!

maybe they are going to peak soon after the internet buzz settles down...then again...let's see if these babies sell for that price...?

i know compared to a gibby with the same features it's still $1000's less, but i think there are still some other brands that can at least compete with edwards for best lp knockoff for cheaper than $1200 bucks...but maybe i'm wrong...?! i know it's ruining my dream of snagging one next year for what i was hoping to be around $500 bucks...?! :smack: :smack: :smack:

Look at Grecos and Burnys. You wouldn't spend more than $600 and it would probably have already vintaged 20 years.

It's a funny thing. I do believe that $1200 is high for a guitar if you believe it is indeed a "knock off". The term generally converys images of cheapness, less than top-notch materials, shoddy workmanship, low quality components and lousy finishes.

But the thing about the Edwards and Grecos and Burnys and Tokai's is that they're typically not that at all. Typically the quality is as good as Gibsons. One thing I've been trying to put in my mind is "would I buy this guitar if it had come from Gibson but didn't have the Gibson name on the headstock". This question really seperates the intrinsic value that the Gibson name brand puts on the guitars.

And I think that all in all for $1200 I'd be pretty tempted.....

The market's getting weird though. Something's happening. I'm not sure if it's just folks are revolting against Gibson or what. But the prices are on the rise for them.

Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

I have heard great things about All three (Edwards, Greco & Burny), I'd be happy with any of those, do the Greco's and Burny's have the long tenon etc. too?

If I got that guitar, the LP studio would become my "beater" guitar for sure, even though it's more expensive!!!

I own two Grecos, both Les Paul Custom clones. One is a late 70's model (Black Beauty clone) and the other is a mid-80's model (bookmatched red-dyed top). Both have the long tenon.

The Black Beauty has an ebony fretboard and the pickups were a bit microphonic before I waxed them. The headstock inlay is a total Gibson clone. The Red one has a rosewood fretboard and the headstock logo is different; kind of a likeness but more of an art-deco take on it.

Both of them smoke just about any other Les Paul I managed to get my hands on.

Re: i know Edwards lp's are nice but...?

Never like the tabaccoish sunburst but that yellow thing is really really appealing to me :s

Re: i know Edwards lp's are nice but...?

They aren't that bad but i wouldnt pay that much for a copy les paul. I like the sunburst LP mroe than the yellow. Maybe im wrong on this one but does the binding look sort fo off color?

I agree...to get the same quality in a Gibson it would be more that 3 times that cost...but I will say this, If you guys want an Edwards, there is a guy on this forum who can make it happen...for WAY less that $1200.00...if anybody wants it I will get you his e-mail info...

The guy who invented fire
