I like big muffs and i cannot lie....

Re: I like big muffs and i cannot lie....

Russian Muff with a Chinese 9V battery….

It seems that you just cannot buy Made in America products these days….

Thank God for Seymour Duncan MIA products...

He built it from a General Guitar Gadgets kit. Which is an American company.

Nice work, Gib! I really need to get me a Big Muff one of these days.

I'd add a little more resistance to the LED. Man, that is crazy bright.

Oh, is that what it is. I thought something was severely overheating inside the enclosure and was starting to melt through the metal.

Yep, you missed the whole point about the parts being are made elsewhere - for example, take another look at the actual battery for example...

I live in China and see so many parts made here and shipped to US, by American companies...

Stratman - i reckon you are probably right. Every component is most likely chinese..except maybe for the switchcraft parts?
But if you look at the pedals in my sig, 4 out of 5 are "made in america"(the one on the end being British) but id reckon 90% of the parts in them are chinese too - probably the only non chinese parts would be the NOS transitors. So in essence most stuff is only "assembled in america". This doesnt make much difference for my build tho, cos i guess it is "assembled in Australia". Anyways, General guitar gadgets made some money out of me (i bought 3 kits) so i guess some revenue is heading back stateside.

+1 to the thank god for SD products tho. Most of my axes and amps are Made in America as well, so life is not all gloom and doom.

Nice! I've been in love with my Basic Audio Tri/Ram ever since I got it. I've never had a moment where it sounded bad. I've been thinking about getting a different variant to pair with it - Russian is the first to come to min, although I may be interested in a Civil War type.

Re: I like big muffs and i cannot lie....

... You other brothers can't deny
That when guy walks in and starts to melt face
You just stomp on your fuzz face and get sprung
Like a spring reverb cause you know that pedal is metal.
And your singer, he starts swearing.
While the amp's grill cloth is tearing.
OH BAYbee your drummer tries to hit cha.
Your bass player bit cha.
But it's your favorite stompbox
and your girlfriend says that your new band rocks!
OOO thick as molasses
You say you wanna sound fat as hell?
Then choose it, use it.
If you're feeling saucy then abuse it.
I see them movin,
It gets me groovin.
It's loud, proud
I got it cranked when it hits the crowd.
I'm tired of magazines
Saying tube screamer's the thing.
Take the guitar man and ask him that.
It's bass that that thing lacks.
So rockers (yeah) shockers (Yeah)
Does your tone give you a bone (Hell yeah)
Then stomp it on, rock all night long
And jam until the break of dawn.
Buddy got TONE!

i have a kit for a ramshead. ill make it in the next couple if days, cos im keen to hear the differences too. I i believe the civil war internally is more or less the same as the green russian.

Gibson175: Don’t get me wrong! I love your pedal build’s handy work.

I purchased and assembled two JBT kit from General Guitar Gadgets for (If my memory serves me right) about $50 bucks each, they do work well, but also use a lot of foreign parts.

Assembled the first pedal in about one hour and it sounds great, very close to the original Jordan Bosstone that I own, but easier to use since it’s a pedal.

I also installed the same unit into a used volume pedal switching the 100K volume pot from the JBT to replace the normal volume 25K pot in the volume pedal, with the 100k pot attached to the side (Had to drill a hole for that) of the volume pedal… This work took me about two hours to complete and does not use that diode (Burned it out somehow ?…)

The JBT installed into the volume pedal works nice, since I can control the amount of drive that I want from the JBT in that configuration.
Finally, I installed a 250K-250K dual ganged linear dual pot so that I can use the pedal signal with a clean signal at the same time.
Give me a really nice easy Carlos Santana tone similar to that Carlos used in Abraxas album.

Re: I like big muffs and i cannot lie....

yeh. i like bosstones too. The voodoo labs superfuzz is a bosstone with two extra knobbies. I kinda dig fuzzfaces the best, but its sure fun exploring loads of different textures.

Are all those resistors metal film ? I certainly hope not.
yes they are (hangs head in shame). I just bought a kit and wired it up dot to dot cos thats what it came with. If i was to buy myself a cache of carbon comps for future builds what do you recommend?

My overdrive (thats soon to be finished) is made from all my fave components and values, but im waiting for one (missing) pot to arrive

1/2 watt carbon film would be my choice. If you want to get old school you can use carbon composite, with all their attendant issues. I prefer carbon film as a good compromise, and they sound a lot less sterile than metal film in the signal path.
