I literally HATE Greek Luthers

Snakes aces, acting all spaz and irrational doesn't usually get people to agree with you. Ok, the guy messed up your guitar nut, that sux. If you want something done right you should learn to do it yourself. Why are you spaz posting all over the forum and trying to act macho and honorable when you sound like a dork? Bro!

Bro, indeed.

I'm seconding Jolly's asking if everything's ok. Also, I'd like to hear the voicemail.

I get what Neg is saying, if I have to shim a nut, no problem, especially if it is a quick fix. If you send the guitar to a luthier, you want it cut perfectly. A skilled luthier should not have to shim a nut. That is what we are paying them for.

Yes. I'm just thinking, in this case, maybe a little shim under the nut, knucks stay in the drawer, mean voicemails get erased, a plane ticket back to Greece doesn't need to be bought, seven figures continue to be made, everyone sleeps at home tonight.

I was mostly being tongue-in-cheek, but it's never really bothered me to use a shim in a pinch. What makes you dislike them?

Basically what Securb is saying -I want a luthier to do it the intended way if Im paying for it -If I need to shim one personally -no prob..

I will point out that it is likely that a shim transfers less string energy into the resonant loop of the guitar than a correctly made nut where the entire nut is in direct contact with the Neck (because a shim looses some energy through inefficency from motion and transfer of another material, and heat)

Which affects the sound-but not necessarily audibly or negatively just different than what was intended when you bought it with a nut that touches all over

SO I think a Luthier owes you the intended approach or the original manufacturer unless identified upfront.

Just skimmed the thread. I was a history major. I'm fairly sure Greeks have a long tradition of luthiery, either through directly inventing ancient instruments that we aren't 100% sure how to reproduce in the modern era, or by influencing the stringed instruments of other cultures.

I have never done any business with Greek luthiers. That said, I'm sure there can be heated conversations...
